Establishment of a Native Cavity‐Nesting Bee (Exoneura robusta) After Translocation Into an Urban Environment

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
We translocated the native cavity‐nesting bee Exoneura robusta into an urban greenspace using artificial nests to test short‐term establishment success. Five of eleven nests persisted through a full annual cycle, demonstrating that urban environments can support early colony establishment.

Horticultural Studies 1998 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Horticulture connects with people in many ways including an enhanced awareness concerning the importance of fruits and vegetables in our diet. The health benefits of such a diet is gaining wide recognition throughout the public and will likely provide ...

Genetic and Ecological Divergence Between Northwest Atlantic Killer Whale Populations

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
Killer whale (Orcinus orca) populations exhibit substantial genetic, ecological, and morphological differences across their global distribution. In this study, we use whole‐genome resequencing and compound‐specific stable isotope analysis of amino acids to show concurrent genetic and ecological differentiation in two relatively understudied killer ...

Impact of pine looper defoliation in Scots pine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Widespread defoliation of forests caused by insects or fungi cause economic losses throughout the world. Successful outbreak management involves cost/benefit estimation and requires knowledge of potential yield losses. Currently, such knowledge is scarce.

Double‐Edged Sword of Social Media Algorithms: Assessing the Risks to University Cybersecurity and Student Data Privacy

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 5, May 2026.
Social media algorithms drive a hidden risk chain: over‐disclosure → behavioral fusion → targeted attacks. We propose a 128‐dim, law‐aware risk scoring model with Drools‐based dynamic alerts for universities. ABSTRACT As universities undergo accelerated digital transformation, social media algorithms—while streamlining campus services—have emerged as a

Research on Adaptive Irrigation Decision‐Making Method for the Entire Growth Cycle of Water Spinach Based on Reinforcement Learning

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 3, May 2026.
An environmentally enhanced proximal policy optimization (EN‐PPO) method is proposed for adaptive irrigation of water spinach across the full growth cycle. By integrating soil moisture, growth stage, rainfall, and evapotranspiration information, the method improves irrigation timing, water‐saving performance, and rainfall utilization while maintaining ...

Ecosystem‐Scale Methane Emissions From Peatlands of the Hudson Bay Lowlands

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 131, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Northern peatlands are important sources of methane (CH4) in the atmosphere. However, the magnitude of CH4 emissions and their response to environmental factors are poorly constrained within the Hudson Bay Lowlands (HBL), the largest contiguous peatland complex in North America. This study investigated seasonal (April–November) eddy covariance‐

Determination of Effects of Some Summer Pruning Applications on Yield and Quality Characteristics of Alphonse Lavallée (Vitis vinifera L.) Grape Variety

open access: yesHorticulturae
Grapes, one of the most delicious and refreshing fruits in the world, are a source of sugar, minerals, and vitamins. Summer pruning affects ripening, disease control, yield, and quality parameters by controlling the vine microclimate.
