The Sun and Heliosphere at Solar Maximum

open access: yesScience, 2003
Recent Ulysses observations from the Sun's equator to the poles reveal fundamental properties of the three-dimensional heliosphere at the maximum in solar activity. The heliospheric magnetic field originates from a magnetic dipole oriented nearly perpendicular to, instead of nearly parallel to, the Sun's rotation axis.

The Sun, the Solar Wind, and the Heliosphere

open access: yes, 2011
This volume presents a concise, up-to-date overview of current research on the observations, theoretical interpretations, and empirical and physical descriptions of the Sun, the Solar Wind, and the Heliosphere, from the solar interior outward to the ...

The Sun and the Heliosphere as an Integrated System

Astrophysics and Space Science Library, 2004
This book, for the first time, ties together physical processes across the full scale of the heliosphere. It is about the natural connections that exist between various parts of the system. Therefore, it is mainly cast in terms of those mechanisms and phenomena rather than individual missions in space.

Multi-Angle Viewing of the Sun and the Inner Heliosphere

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2003
We describe the concept of a proposed mission, called Multi‐Angle Solar Sources Explorer (MASSE), that would observe the Sun and the inner Heliosphere from an orbit at 0.72 AU over all solar longitudes. It would, in coordination with observations from Earth’s side, investigate the sources of solar activity from their origin deep within the Sun, their ...

The Sun and Heliosphere

2014
The Sun is our star. It provides the energy that makes life’s existence on Earth possible. The main zones of the observed Sun are the photosphere, chromosphere, and corona. Their composition, structure, and peculiarities are intrinsically related with the interior where nuclear fusion occurs. Solar activity includes an 11-year solar cycle and different
