Unlock the Walnut: How a Pectin‐Rich Suture Tissue and Moisture‐Driven Crack Formation Induce Shell Splitting and Facilitate Seed Germination

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Walnut seeds are enclosed in a remarkably strong shell made of sclerenchyma, separated by a pectin‐rich suture tissue. Different cell shapes and chemical composition of this tissue point to an opening mechanism, which is triggered by cyclic humidity changes.

Daily Minutes of Unprotected Sun Exposure (MUSE) Inventory: Measure description and comparisons to UVR sensor and sun protection survey data

open access: yesPreventive Medicine Reports, 2018
One in five US adults will be diagnosed with skin cancer. As most skin cancers are attributable to sun exposure, this risk factor is an important target for research and intervention. Most sun exposure measures assess frequency of specific sun-protection

New Option in Photoprotection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
All the people are exposed to solar ultraviolet radiation. Exposure to sun with living in an oxygen-rich atmosphere causes unwanted photodemage. Sunburned skin is a leading risk factor for melanoma and non-melanoma cancers.

Enhancing the Pharmacokinetics of Aptamers: Targeting AXL In Vivo Using a Bottlebrush Polymer‐Conjugated Aptamer

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A phosphodiester‐backboned bottlebrush polymer (pacDNA) engineered for aptamer delivery is presented. This design enhances aptamer stability, plasma pharmacokinetics, and target engagement in vivo. In AXL‐driven cancer models, pacDNA inhibits AXL signaling and reduces tumor growth, highlighting the promise of precision polymer scaffolds in aptamer ...
