Mechanisms of Anode Interfacial Phenomena and Multi‐perspective Optimization in Aqueous Alkaline Zinc‐Air Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Zinc‐air batteries demonstrate great potential for sustainable energy storage but face major anode‐related challenges. This review provides a mechanism‐driven overview of zinc anode interfacial issues, e.g. dendrite formation, passivation, self‐corrosion, and hydrogen evolution; and explores advances in electrode, surface, and electrolyte engineering ...

Liquid‐Locked Bassanites for Scalable Fabrication of High‐Temperature Micro‐Supercapacitors Working at 300 °C

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A “liquid locking” strategy is proposed and implemented for scalable printing of crack‐free bassanite ceramic frameworks with interlocking microstructures to host ionic liquids as effective electrolytes for high‐temperature micro‐supercapacitors (HT‐MSCs).

Potential of Psidium guajava Leaf as Natural UV Filter in Topical Sunscreen Emulsion

open access: yesJournal of Applied Science and Engineering
This study aims to develop a sunscreen formulation using guava (Psidium guajava) leaf extract (GLE), obtained via ethanol-water (4:1 v/v) extraction. The crude extract was greenish-brown solid with a percentage yield of 19.88 ± 0.28.

Unlock the Walnut: How a Pectin‐Rich Suture Tissue and Moisture‐Driven Crack Formation Induce Shell Splitting and Facilitate Seed Germination

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Walnut seeds are enclosed in a remarkably strong shell made of sclerenchyma, separated by a pectin‐rich suture tissue. Different cell shapes and chemical composition of this tissue point to an opening mechanism, which is triggered by cyclic humidity changes.

Photoresponsive Gas‐Permeable Membranes: Fundamentals, Innovations, and Prospects

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Photoresponsive gas‐permeable membranes can be potentially used for smart packing, carbon capture, hydrogen purification, and optical gas valves due to their remote and non‐contact activation, precise spatial and temporal control, and reversible switching capabilities.
