New thermal insulation fiberboards from cake generated during biorefinery of sunflower whole plant in a twin-screw extruder [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The objective of this study was to manufacture new thermal insulation fiberboards by thermo-pressing. The starting material was a slightly deoiled cake (17.6% oil content), generated during the biorefinery of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) whole plant ...

Parental Attachment and Love Language as Determinants of Resilience Among Graduating University Students

open access: yesSAGE Open, 2016
The influence of parental attachment and love language on the resilience of graduating university students was studied in a Philippine setting. Using the survey method ( N = 843), it was found that a secure attachment and receiving love from parents ...

COLLABORATION BETWEEN A SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST (SLP) AND A MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPIST (MFT) IN TREATING SELECTIVE MUTISM: A CASE STUDY REPORT (article in English)

open access: yesListy klinicke logopedie, 2019
In this article, we provide an intervention plan that was implemented with the collaboration of a speech and language pathologist (SLP) and a marriage and family therapist (MFT) for an 8-year-old bilingual child who was diagnosed with Selective Mutism. A

Lifting with Sunflowers.

open access: yes, 2022
Query-to-communication lifting theorems translate lower bounds on query complexity to lower bounds for the corresponding communication model. In this paper, we give a simplified proof of deterministic lifting (in both the tree-like and dag-like settings). Our proof uses elementary counting together with a novel connection to the sunflower lemma.

Sunflowers and Quasi-sunflowers from Randomness Extractors.

open access: yesElectron. Colloquium Comput. Complex., 2018
The Erdös-Rado sunflower theorem (Journal of Lond. Math. Soc. 1960) is a fundamental result in combinatorics, and the corresponding sunflower conjecture is a central open problem. Motivated by applications in complexity theory, Rossman (FOCS 2010) extended the result to quasi-sunflowers, where similar conjectures emerge about the optimal parameters for

A Pollen‐Enhanced Bionic Mechanoreceptor Induced by Asymmetric Ionic Convection in Hydrogel for Sensory‐Augmented Prostheses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work proposed a pollen‐enhanced bionic mechanoreceptor based on ionic convection. Leveraging the ion anchoring effect of the pollen particle, the output performance could be ∼12 times higher than the original state. By employing deep learning models as AI brains, the feasibility of a sensory‐augmented prosthesis consisting of a pollen‐enhanced ...

Planting Seeds for Food Is Medicine: Pre-Implementation Planning Methods and Formative Evaluation Findings From a Multi-Clinic Initiative in the Midwest

open access: yesJournal of Primary Care & Community Health
Food is medicine (FIM) initiatives are an emerging strategy for addressing nutrition-related health disparities increasingly endorsed by providers, payers, and policymakers. However, food insecurity screening protocols and oversight of medically-tailored

Harnessing Phase Separation for the Development of High‐Performance Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hydrogels are indispensable for the development of next‐generation bioelectronics, soft robotics, and biomedical devices, where their mechanical properties determine performance and reliability. Among strategies to enhance hydrogel mechanics, phase separation enables controlled heterogeneity resulting in gel networks that are reinforced by ...
