Variability of Sunshine Duration in Western Ukraine

Scientific Herald of Chernivtsi University. Geography, 2023
The duration of sunshine is a crucial radiation characteristic of climate, serving as an indicator for both regional atmospheric circulation and surface atmospheric pollution variability. Ground observations using a heliograph, spanning a long duration, enable the detection of changes in the impact of climate-forming factors on modern warming.

Trends in sunshine duration in Poland (1971–2018)

International Journal of Climatology, 2020
AbstractThis study aims to characterize temporal and spatial trends of sunshine duration in Poland based on data from the years 1971–2018 and to make an attempt to explain their causes. Daily sunshine duration came from 31 Polish meteorological stations.

Measurement of Sunshine Duration

2017
Sunshine duration is the length of time that the ground surface is irradiated by direct solar radiation (i.e., sunlight reaching the earth’s surface directly from the sun). The instruments and accessories are required for measurement of sunshine duration have been explained.

Sunshine duration hours over the Greek region

Theoretical and Applied Climatology, 2005
In this study, the temporal and spatial distribution of bright sunshine hours and relative sunshine duration over Greece are presented. The datasets used for this study were obtained from the archives of the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS).

Terrestrial irradiation–sunshine duration clustering and prediction

Energy Conversion and Management, 2003
Abstract The relationship between terrestrial irradiance and sunshine duration is not crisp and there are scatters around a general trend, which most often is expressed to occur in the form of a linear expression. This study presents a way of grouping the solar irradiation–sunshine duration data into convenient seasonal subgroups and then makes ...

Estimation of sunshine duration in Saudi Arabia

Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy, 2013
In this paper we propose machine learning algorithms to estimate the sunshine duration at any region in Saudi Arabia using easily obtained parameters that include: maximum possible day length (So), extraterrestrial solar radiation at that particular location (Ho), latitude, longitude, altitude, and month number.

A sunshine monitor for automatic registration of sunshine duration

Archives for Meteorology, Geophysics, and Bioclimatology Series B, 1981
A sunshine monitor and its calibration is described. Its important characteristics are: it has an electrical DC level output which is high (> 4.5 V) for “sunshine” and low (< 0.4 V) for “no sunshine”; it is calibrated for a threshold sensitivity of 200 W/m2, which meets the sunshine definition of the World Meteorological Organization; it requires very ...

Influence of cloudiness on sunshine duration

International Journal of Climatology, 2011
AbstractThis paper analyzes the influence of cloudiness and cloud genera on sunshine duration based on a very long (1884–2007) homogeneous daily nephological and sunshine duration data series for the City of Krakow. Quadratic regression was used to describe the relationship between sunshine duration and cloudiness.

Correlating beam radiation with sunshine duration

Solar Energy, 1992
For seven locations in north and central India, monthly averaged data of daily beam irradiation on a horizontal surface, I, have been correlated with bright sunshine duration, s, using the relation (I/I{sub o}) = b{sub o}(s/S{prime}) where I{sub o} is the monthly mean value of extraterrestrial irradiation over a day, S{prime} is the corresponding ...

Comparison of sunshine duration measurements from Campbell-Stokes sunshine recorder and CSD1 sensor

Theoretical and Applied Climatology, 2016
Paper presents comparative analysis of sunshine duration measurement results obtained using Campbell-Stokes sunshine recorder (CS) and electronic sensor (CSD1). The comparison is based on data from 2009 to 2010 collected at seven weather stations (Leszno, Wroclaw-Strachowice, Legnica, Opole, Zielona Gora, Jelenia Gora, Klodzko) operated by the ...
