Sunspot cycles

Economic Theory, 2003
This paper shows new properties about the equilibria of a stationary OG economy by establishing a connection between its stationary equilibria and those of a finite economy, with and without extrinsic uncertainty. Specifically, it shows the countability and local uniqueness with respect to the sup metric of the so-called sunspot cycles introduced here,

Group Sunspot Numbers: Sunspot Cycle Characteristics

Solar Physics, 2002
We examine the "Group" sunspot numbers constructed by Hoyt and Schatten to determine their utility in characterizing the solar activity cycle. We compare smoothed monthly Group Sunspot Numbers to Zurich (International) Sunspot Numbers, 10.7-cm radio flux, and total sunspot area.

Cycles and sunspot: The Poincaré-Hopf approach

Journal of Mathematical Economics, 1996
This paper deals with the existence of stationary sunspot equilibria (SSE) of finite order in an n-commodity economy. We first provide a simple condition that is sufficient for the existence of SSE associated with any given Markov matrix. This condition encompasses and extends previous results by Guesnerie (Journal of Economic Theory, 1986, 40, 103–128)

Simulating the sunspot cycle

Nature, 1986
Fossil records of presumed solar activity1,2 in 680-Myr-old varves reveal two periods, ∼314 and 350 varve years respectively, which also appear in recent sunspot records. These periodicities, combined with a nonlinear feature of sunspot number and a theory of the asymmetry of the solar cycle, enable the sunspot record to be extrapolated back to 1800 so

Notes on the sunspot cycle

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1954
Indication that the long series of sunspot cycles is beginning to repeat itself within recorded data has renewed interest in the question of the components which are involved. One difficulty encountered in previous attempts at isolating the components has been in not basing the analysis on an integral number of cycles.

Periodicities in the sunspot cycle

Vistas in Astronomy, 1987
Abstract The existence of the eleven-year sunspot cycle has been known for many years. Since the first compilation of sunspot records, there has been sustained interest in detecting other periodicities in sunspot data. Statistical analyses of sunspot counts have indicated the presence of a number of different periodicities with wavelengths ranging ...

Study of sunspots and sunspot cycles 1-24

2010
Sunspots are the most obvious feature on the disturbed surface of the photosphere above the solar atmosphere and appear to play a key role in major solar and terrestrial disturbances. The solar source activity varies with a 11-year sunspot cycle. During solar activity maximum years, maximum transient solar activity (i.e.

Forecasting the Sunspot Cycle

Journal of the Royal Statistical Society. Series A (General), 1977
SUMMARY The problem of forecasting the development of the well-known sunspot cycle of approximately 11 years from observations made early in the cycle is considered. Each cycle is described by a member of a family of curves with different parameters for each cycle.
