Schematic illustration of PLA/316L stainless steel composite filament production via fused deposition modeling, demonstrating the trade‐off between stainless steel content, mechanical enhancement, and biocompatibility. ABSTRACT Polylactic acid (PLA) is a biodegradable thermoplastic widely used in biomedical devices; however, its inherent brittleness ...

Effect of Cu on the Formation of Reversed Austenite in Super Martensitic Stainless Steel
We investigated the effect of Cu on the formation of reversed austenite in super martensitic stainless steel by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), a transmission electron microscope (TEM) and an energy-dispersive spectrometer (EDS). Our results showed that the microstructure of the steels comprised tempered martensite and diffused reversed austenite after ...

To support future alloy development a powder mixture is processed by laser additive manufacturing. The powder mixture containing Mo‐ and W‐rich tracers is processed by powder bed fusion using single and double laser exposure and by directed energy deposition which provides drastically enlarged melt pools.

Exploiting Residual Elements Arising from Scrap Steel in Future Sustainable Steel Alloy Design
Herein, the effects of residual elements Cu and Sn on grain growth, recrystallization, and phase transformation in C–Mn steel are summarized, and a case study is presented on how the presence of residual elements can be exploited to reduce deliberate Nb microalloying while achieving the same grain size control and strength during thermomechanical ...

Cold spray deposition of stainless steel (grade: SS304) is evaluated for marine applications, with emphasis on martensitic transformation during impact. Analytical modeling, simulations, and experiments reveal that helium‐assisted spraying of fine powders promotes cooling below the martensitic start temperature, enabling up to ≈40% austenite to ...
