A Novel γ′-Strengthened Nickel-Based Superalloy for Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesMaterials, 2020
An experimental printable γ′-strengthened nickel-based superalloy, MAD542, is proposed. By process optimization, a crack-free component with less than 0.06% defect was achieved by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF).

Deformable Eutectic Alloy With Near‐Theoretical Yield Strength via Hierarchical Nanoscale Multiphases and Sessile Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A CoCrFeNiTa0.4 eutectic high‐entropy alloy achieves a near‐theoretical yield strength of 2.6 GPa with 13.6% plasticity. This breakthrough stems from a hierarchical nanostructure (FCC‐Laves lamellae with L12/D022 precipitates), which alleviates the inter‐phase modulus/hardness mismatch through synergistic strengthening and toughening, guiding the ...

Evaluation of Hot Workability of Nickel-Based Superalloy Using Activation Energy Map and Processing Maps

open access: yesMaterials, 2020
The stress-strain curves for nickel-based superalloy were obtained from isothermal hot compression tests at a wide range of deformation temperatures and strain rates. The material constants and deformation activation energy of the investigated superalloy

Inverse Design of Alloys via Generative Algorithms: Optimization and Diffusion within Learned Latent Space

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This work presents a novel generative artificial intelligence (AI) framework for inverse alloy design through operations (optimization and diffusion) within learned compact latent space from variational autoencoder (VAE). The proposed work addresses challenges of limited data, nonuniqueness solutions, and high‐dimensional spaces.

Research on vacuum-electromagnetic casting of IN100 superalloy ingots

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials, 2007
In order to improve the inner quality of superalloy master alloy ingots, the new technology of superalloy vacuum-electromagnetic casting, i.e. applying electromagnetic stirring (EMS) to the solidification process of superalloy vacuum casting was ...

Directional solidification of superalloys [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
This invention relates to the directional solidification of superalloys, in particular nickel-based superalloys, by imposition of a predetermined temperature profile in the solidification front and, depending on the desired results, a predetermined rate ...

Upsampling DINOv2 Features for Unsupervised Vision Tasks and Weakly Supervised Materials Segmentation

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Feature from recent image foundation models (DINOv2) are useful for vision tasks (segmentation, object localization) with little or no human input. Once upsampled, they can be used for weakly supervised micrograph segmentation, achieving strong results when compared to classical features (blurs, edge detection) across a range of material systems.
