Ballistic Brownian motion of supercavitating nanoparticles
Physical Review E, 2021We show that the Brownian motion of a nanoparticle (NP) can reach a ballistic limit when intensely heated to form supercavitation. As the NP temperature increases, its Brownian motion displays a sharp transition from normal to ballistic diffusion upon the formation of a vapor bubble to encapsulate the NP.

Interaction of Supercavitating Strikers with Underwater Obstacles
Journal of Engineering Physics and Thermophysics, 2022The interaction of supercavitating strikers with obstacles placed in water was investigated in a wide range of intersection angles. Several options of the interaction of strikers with obstacles are considered, including through puncturing, destruction of the striker, and ricochet.

Supercavitating body dynamics, bifurcations and control
Proceedings of the 2005, American Control Conference, 2005., 2005Numerical investigations conducted into the dive-plane dynamics of supercavitating bodies, which are described by a non-smooth system, are discussed. For a selected set of system-parameter values, a fundamental understanding of the solution structure obtained in terms of equilibrium and periodic solutions is presented.

Control Strategies For Supercavitating Vehicles
Journal of Vibration and Control, 2002Supercavitating bodies can achieve very high speeds under water by virtue of reduced drag: with proper design, a cavitation bubble is generated at the nose and skin friction drag is drastically reduced. Depending on the type of supercavitating vehicle under consideration, the overall drag coefficient can be an order of magnitude less than that of a ...

Planing avoidance control for supercavitating vehicles
2014 American Control Conference, 2014Underwater vehicles traveling inside a bubble or supercavity enable the reduction of drag and increase of speed; however, planing forces generated when the vehicle aft end pierces the bubble can lead to oscillatory motion and instability. In this paper, a framework for the synthesis of planing avoidance controllers is presented and the trade-off ...

Nonlinear Control Design for a Supercavitating Vehicle
IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, 2009Supercavitating vehicles can achieve very high speed but also pose technical challenges in system stability, maneuvering, and control. Compared to a fully-wetted vehicle for which substantial lift is generated due to vortex shedding off the hull, a supercavitating vehicle is enveloped by gas surface (cavity) and thus the lift is provided by control ...
