Computer modelling of superconductive fault current limiters

Materials Science and Engineering: B, 1998
Abstract Investigations are being carried out on the use of superconductors for fault current limiting applications. A number of computer programs are being developed to predict the behavior of different ‘resistive’ fault current limiter designs under a variety of fault conditions.

Three-winding coreless superconducting fault current limiter

2019 Applications of Electromagnetics in Modern Engineering and Medicine (PTZE), 2019
Fault current is one of the basic threats to the elements of power systems. Fault current flow can cause thermal and dynamic harmful effects on the operation of power equipment. An ideal fault current limiter is required to have zero impedance at work currents and substantial impedance in short-circuit conditions.

Superconducting fault current limiter for railway transport

Physics of Atomic Nuclei, 2015
A resistive switching superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) for DC networks with voltage of 3.5 kV and nominal current of 2 kA is developed. The SFCL consists of two series-connected units: block of superconducting modules and high-speed vacuum breaker with total disconnection time not more than 8 ms.

Summary of Superconducting Fault Current Limiter Technology

2012
In recent years, superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) has become one of the forefront topics of current-limiting technology in the world. In this paper, the structure and working principle of several SFCLs which perform high in the actual power grid, such as resistance type, reaction type, hybrid type, magnetic shielding type, saturated iron ...

Indirect cooling of superconducting fault current limiter

2014 ELEKTRO, 2014
Superconducting fault current limiters based on high temperature superconducting coated conductors are novel devices which enable us further development of the medium voltage electricity network. In the current manuscript we present a short overview of the most important parameters and features of these devices.

Development of Superconducting AC Fault Current Limiter

1990
The authors have developed a new superconducting fault current limiter whose impedance during normal operation is very small. During fault conditions, the limiter behaves as a superconducting reactor. The limiter consist of a superconducting limiting coil and a superconducting trigger coil.

Test on Superconducting AC Fault Current Limiter

1990
The authors have developed a new superconducting fault current limiter whose impedance during normal operation is very small. During fault conditions, the limiter behaves as a superconducting reactor. The limiter consists of a superconducting limiting coil and a superconducting trigger coil. The former coil has a larger critical current than the latter
