Superconductors and Gravity

open access: yesSymmetry, 2022
We review and discuss some recent developments on the unconventional interaction between superconducting systems and the local gravitational field. While it is known that gravitational perturbations (such as gravitational waves) can affect supercondensates and supercurrents dynamics, we want to focus here on the more subtle superfluid back-reaction ...

RESISTANCE IN SUPERCONDUCTORS [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics B, 2010
In this pedagogical review, we discuss how electrical resistance can arise in superconductors. Starting with the idea of the superconducting order parameter as a condensate wave function, we introduce vortices as topological excitations with quantized phase winding, and we show how phase slips occur when vortices cross the sample.

Metamaterial superconductors [PDF]

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2015
Abstract Searching for natural materials exhibiting larger electron‐electron interactions constitutes a traditional approach to high‐temperature superconductivity research. Very recently, we pointed out that the newly developed field of electromagnetic metamaterials deals with the somewhat related task of ...

Active Terahertz Modulator and Slow Light Metamaterial Devices with Hybrid Graphene–Superconductor Photonic Integrated Circuits

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2021
Metamaterial photonic integrated circuits with arrays of hybrid graphene–superconductor coupled split-ring resonators (SRR) capable of modulating and slowing down terahertz (THz) light are introduced and proposed.

A spin–orbit scattering–enhanced high upper critical field at the LaAlO3/KTaO3(111) superconducting interface

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2023
Spin–orbit interaction is essential to enhance the in-plane upper critical field of two-dimensional superconductors. Here, we report the LaAlO _3 /KTaO _3 (111) superconducting interface ( T _c,0 ≈ 0.475 K) with a high in-plane upper critical field (∼1.6

Challenges and Opportunities of Very Light High-Performance Electric Drives for Aviation

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
The demand for alternative fueling methods to reduce the need for fossil fuels is not limited to the electrification of ground vehicles. More-electric and all-electric aircraft pose challenges, with extensive requirements in terms of power density ...

Exploring the Interdependence between Electronically Unfavorable Situations and Pressure in a Chalcogenide Superconductor

open access: yesInorganics, 2023
The development of solids with the requested chemical and physical properties requires a thorough understanding of their electronic structures, as proper knowledge of the electronic structure of a given solid provides invaluable information regarding its

Optical Josephson effects using phase-conjugating mirrors: an analogy with superconductors

open access: yesJournal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2000
Motivated by the analogy between a phase-conjugating mirror (PCM) and a superconductor, we search for optical counterparts of the well-known DC and AC Josephson effects.
