Automatic extraction of materials and properties from superconductors scientific literature

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials: Methods, 2023
The automatic extraction of materials and related properties from the scientific literature is gaining attention in data-driven materials science (Materials Informatics).

Lightning in superconductors [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2012
Crucially important for application of type-II superconductor films is the stability of the vortex matter--magnetic flux lines penetrating the material. If some vortices get detached from pinning centres, the energy dissipated by their motion will facilitate further depinning, and may trigger a massive electromagnetic breakdown.

High-Temperature (Cu,C)Ba2Ca3Cu4Oy Superconducting Films with Large Irreversible Fields Grown on SrLaAlO4 Substrates by Pulsed Laser Deposition

open access: yesCrystals
(Cu,C)Ba2Ca3Cu4Oy is a nontoxic cuprate superconducting material with a superconducting transition temperature of about 116 K. Recently, it was found that bulk samples of this material synthesized under high pressure hold the highest irreversibility line

Holographic superconductors [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2008
It has been shown that a gravitational dual to a superconductor can be obtained by coupling anti-de Sitter gravity to a Maxwell field and charged scalar. We review our earlier analysis of this theory and extend it in two directions. First, we consider all values for the charge of the scalar field.

Evidence for current suppression in superconductor–superconductor bilayers

open access: yesSuperconductor Science and Technology, 2023
Abstract Superconducting radio frequency (SRF) cavities, which are critical components in many particle accelerators, need to be operated in the Meissner state to avoid strong dissipation from magnetic vortices. For a defect-free superconductor, the maximum attainable magnetic field for operation is set by the superheating field,

Magneto-thermal switching using superconducting metals and alloys

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials
Superconductors exhibit low thermal conductivity (κ) due to the suppression of electronic thermal conduction in the superconducting states with Cooper pairs. This change in κ enables superconductors to function as magneto-thermal switches (MTS).

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Anodization-based process for the fabrication of all niobium nitride Josephson junction structures

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Nanotechnology, 2017
We studied the growth and oxidation of niobium nitride (NbN) films that we used to fabricate superconductive tunnel junctions. The thin films were deposited by dc reactive magnetron sputtering using a mixture of argon and nitrogen. The process parameters

Is an Apple an Orange? A Large Language Model Benchmark for Candidate Term Extraction and Subclass Decisions Against Upper Ontologies in Engineering and Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

Microscopic characterization of the superconducting thin films of the (Cu1-xCx)Ba2Can-1CunOy on LaAlO3 substrate

open access: yesMaterials Research Express
The cuprate superconductors with transition temperature over 100 K are mainly Hg-based, Tl-based, Bi-based and Cu-based. The transition temperature of the Cu-based superconductor (Cu _1-x C _x )Ba _2 Ca _3 Cu _4 O _y reaches up to 117 K, while exhibiting
