Supercontinuum Generation in Gases

Physical Review Letters, 1986
This paper describes the first observation of supercontinua from gaseous media. The supercontinuum was generated at pressures as low as 1 atm from Xe and with input power as low as 5 µJ in 40 atm Xe and 25 µJ in 40 atm CO2. Continua were produced in the rare gases, Ar, Kr and Xe and molecular gases, H2, CO2 and N2.

Fibre-Based Supercontinuum

2016
As comprehensively described in the earlier chapters of this book, by 1970, Alfano and Shapiro had published three defining papers on supercontinuum generation in bulk materials (Alfano and Shapiro, 1970a,b,c), identifying some of the principal non-linear effects contributing to the observed spectral broadening, as well as recognising the importance of

Coherent-mode representation of supercontinuum

Optics Letters, 2012
We apply the coherent-mode expansion to correlation functions used to describe the coherence properties of supercontinuum generated in nonlinear fibers. We show that the leading term of the expansion represents the quasi-coherent part of the field while the quasi-stationary part is embedded into the higher-order modes.

Coherence Properties of the Supercontinuum Source

Applied Physics B, 2003
Mutual–temporal coherence of the supercontinuum (SC) generation has been experimentally investigated using a diffraction grating based interferometer. A broadband SC generation was produced in a pyrex glass plate with a 1.6-μm coherence length at 550-nm center wavelength.

Visible cw-pumped supercontinuum

Optics Letters, 2008
We report the experimental demonstration of a visible supercontinuum in the cw pumping regime. A 20 W ytterbium fiber laser at 1.06 microm is used to pump a photonic crystal fiber whose zero-dispersion wavelength decreases along the fiber length. Visible wavelengths are generated in the fundamental mode via trapping of dispersive waves by redshifted ...

Supercontinuum generation in tapered fibers

Optics Letters, 2000
Supercontinuum light with a spectrum more than two octaves broad (370-1545 nm at the 20-dB level) was generated in a standard telecommunications fiber by femtosecond pulses from an unamplified Ti:sapphire laser. The fiber had been tapered to a diameter of :2mum over a 90-mm length. The pulse energy was 3.9 nJ (average power, 300 mW).

The rising of the supercontinuum

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2016
Supercontinuum sources are one of the most widely exploited technologies to emerge from the invention of photonic crystal fibers. I will review the developments in supercontinuum technology which have allowed this exploitation to take place.
