Isochoric supercooling cryomicroscopy

Cryobiology, 2022
We introduce an isochoric (constant-volume) supercooling cryomicroscope (ISCM), enabling the ice-free study of biological systems and biochemical reactions at subzero temperatures at atmospheric pressure absent ice. This technology draws from thermodynamic findings on the behavior of water in isochoric systems at subfreezing temperatures. A description

Enzymology in supercooled water

Nature, 1977
RECENT years have witnessed an increasing interest in applications of low temperature techniques to studies of enzyme-catalysed reactions, the aims being the temporal resolution of the contributing reactions and the stabilisation of intermediate species.

Supercooling of Liquid Hydrogen

Physical Review Letters, 1986
We describe experiments that we have performed with droplets of supercooled liquid ${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$ in the temperature range down to 10.6 K. We have measured the nucleation rate for the production of the solid phase. Using this result, we discuss the prospects for the experimental production of superfluid ${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$.

Experimental Study on Supercooling Phenomenon and Supercooling Degree of Nanofluids

International Journal of Power and Energy Engineering, 2021
In recent years, nanofluid has gradually entered people's field of vision due to its unique cold storage performance. Hybrid nanofluid has a more prominent effect. In order to reduce the supercooling degree of the nanofluid and obtain a practical and effective method to reduce the supercooling degree, the nano-particle graphene oxide and Al2O3 are ...

Glaciohydraulic supercooling

Progress in Physical Geography: Earth and Environment, 2008
In this progress report we review recent work which has investigated the process of glaciohydraulic supercooling and its significance for a range of glaciological and geological phenomena. Since our last report (Knight and Cook, 2008), glaciohydraulic supercooling has been identified in new locations and under hitherto unrecognized conditions, both ...

The supercooling of acetamide

Thermochimica Acta, 1984
Abstract The supercooling of acetamide has been investigated by conventional cooling curves and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and the results from each technique appear to correlate well. The extent of supercooling was found to be linearly dependent on of acetamide.

Supercooling of Mercury

Nature, 1949
BEFORE the War, when we were working at University College, Southampton, on the solid/liquid phase change, some experiments were started on the supercooling of mercury, in order to find the degree attainable, the factors controlling it, the effect of external influences and the cause of the onset of freezing.

Supercooling of liquids

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1952
Abstract I shall concentrate upon reviewing the important recent change in our appreciation of the facts of supercooling which has been brought about particularly by the work of Turnbull at the General Electric Research Laboratory in Schenectady.
