Supercooling and cold energy storage characteristics of nano-media in ball-packed porous structures

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2015
The presented experiments aimed to study the supercooling and cold-energy storage characteristics of nanofluids and water-based nano-media in ball-packed porous structures (BPS). Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) measuring 20nm and 80nm were used

Electrodeposition Patterned Copper Foam with Micro/Nanostructures for Reducing Supercooling in Water-Based Cool Storage Phase-Change Materials

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Copper foam is widely used in industrial catalysis, flow boiling, and latent heat storage systems. It is expected that a multi-level topology copper foam with micro/nanostructures can further enhance performance.

Supercooling elimination of cryogenic-temperature microencapsulated phase change materials (MPCMs) and the rheological behaviors of their suspension [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2022
Phase change materials (PCMs) when amalgamated in a shell material to form microencapsulated-PCMs (MPCMs) usually exhibit high levels of supercooling due to the limited crystallization process.

Ternary composite phase change materials (PCMs) towards low phase separation and supercooling: eutectic behaviors and application

open access: yesEnergy Reports, 2022
Salt hydrates have been used as phase change materials (PCMs) for various types of Thermal Energy Storage (TES) especially for cold storage. In this project, a novel composite phase change material (PCM) consisted of mixed solution of inorganic salt and ...

Influence of Surfactant on Supercooling Degree of Aqueous Titania Nanofluids in Energy Storage Systems

open access: yes, 2019
Considering the demand to reduce global warming potential and importance of solidification in various applications, there is an increasing interest in energy storage systems to find the efficient phase change materials. Therefore, this paper presents an experimental study and comparison on the potential of titania nanofluids with and without surfactant

Unexpected effect of internal degrees of freedom on transverse phonons in supercooled liquids [PDF]

open access: yesEurophysics Letters (EPL), 2006
We show experimentally that in a supercooled liquid composed of molecules with internal degrees of freedom the internal modes contribute to the frequency dependent shear viscosity and damping of transverse phonons, which results in an additional broadening of the transverse Brillouin lines.
