Advancing Upcycling and Regeneration of Spent LiFePO4: Failure Mechanisms and Recovery Strategies

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
This review studies the failure mechanism to promote the upcycling regeneration of spent lithium iron phosphate (S‐LFP). It first summarizes the failure mechanisms of LFP batteries revealed via advanced characterization technologies and then explores the respective advantages and challenges of hydrometallurgy and direct regeneration methods.

Validation of Depth-Averaged Flow Model Using Flat-Bottomed Benchmark Problems

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
In this study, a shallow water flow code was developed and tested against four benchmark problems of practical relevance. The results demonstrated that as the eddy viscosity increased, the velocity slope along the spanwise direction decreased, and the ...

Origin of spectacular fields of submarine sediment waves around volcanic islands : distinguishing eruption-fed supercritical flow bedforms from slope failures.

open access: yes, 2018
Understanding how large eruptions and landslides are recorded by seafloor morphology and deposits on volcanic island flanks is important for reconstruction of volcanic island history and geohazard assessment. Spectacular fields of bedforms have been recognised recently on submerged flanks of volcanic islands at multiple locations worldwide.

Embedded Eigenvalues and the Nonlinear Schrodinger Equation

open access: yes, 2011
A common challenge to proving asymptotic stability of solitary waves is understanding the spectrum of the operator associated with the linearized flow. The existence of eigenvalues can inhibit the dispersive estimates key to proving stability.

Biomass‐Coupled HER System: A Strategy for Sustainable and Low‐Cost Hydrogen Production

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
Pine wood is carbonized into a hierarchically porous biochar anode that undergoes carbon oxidation reaction, replacing the oxygen evolution reaction in alkaline water electrolysis. The resulting biomass‐coupled HER system converts water into hydrogen at low cell voltages, enabling low‐cost H2 production from renewable carbon resources. ABSTRACT Biomass‐

A Methodology to Integrate Closed‐Cycle Heat Pumps into Batch Distillation Columns

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
Batch distillation often cannot use vapor recompression due to contamination risks in food and pharma. This study proposes a design for integrating closed‐loop heat pumps using natural fluids. Results show significant energy savings, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional setups.

Prediction of transonic flutter for a supercritical wing by modified strip analysis and comparison with experiment [PDF]

open access: yes
Use of a supercritical airfoil can adversely affect wing flutter speeds in the transonic range. As adequate theories for three dimensional unsteady transonic flow are not yet available, the modified strip analysis was used to predict the transonic ...

Unconditional jetting

open access: yes, 2008
Capillary jetting of a fluid dispersed into another immiscible phase is usually limited by a critical Capillary number, a function of the Reynolds number and the fluid properties ratios.

Global and Detailed Calculation of Tube Wall Temperature in a Process Furnace Steam Superheater

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
This study presents a comparison between an iterative global model and multiple approaches to a new non‐iterative model with the purpose of predicting tube wall temperature of a superheater. The results show that the non‐iterative method achieves sufficient accuracy while improving the prediction of local temperature distribution and better ...

Hydraulic River Models From ICESat‐2 Elevation and Water Surface Slope

open access: yesWater Resources Research
Forecasting flood and drought events requires accurate modeling tools. Hydraulic river models are based on estimates of riverbed geometry which are traditionally collected in situ.
