SIR epidemics with long range infection in one dimension
We study epidemic processes with immunization on very large 1-dimensional lattices, where at least some of the infections are non-local, with rates decaying as power laws p(x) ~ x^{-sigma-1} for large distances x.

Hamiltonian analysis of subcritical stochastic epidemic dynamics [PDF]
We extend a technique of approximation of the long-term behavior of a supercritical stochastic epidemic model, using the WKB approximation and a Hamiltonian phase space, to the subcritical case.

Laterally spreading tumors (LSTs) are precancerous colorectal lesions characterized by a flat morphology. This study reveals a mechanochemical pathway through which a soft matrix microenvironment diminishes spatial constraints in intestinal adenomas. This process promotes deficiencies in tight junction proteins, mediated by the mechanoreceptor ADORA2B ...

Bistability conditions between lasing and non-lasing states for vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers with frequency-selective optical feedback [PDF]
This paper gives analytical treatment and experimental details on on/off-bistability in vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers with frequency-selective feedback by a grating.

Reactivity‐Programmed Assembly: A kinetic‐control strategy is reported for constructing hyperconnected silicone aerogels with a robust “thick‐neck” architecture. By exploiting the reactivity disparity of precursors, flexible segments are uniformly embedded within a rigid skeleton.

Review of Zeeman Effect Observations of Regions of Star Formation
The Zeeman effect is the only observational technique available to measure directly the strength of magnetic fields in regions of star formation. This chapter reviews the physics of the Zeeman effect and its practical use in both extended gas and in ...

Structure and dynamics of the sudden acceleration of Kuroshio off Cape Shionomisaki [PDF]
A sudden acceleration of the Kuroshio jet appears off Cape Shionomisaki in the high-resolution (horizontal resolution of 1/36°) JCOPE 2 ocean reanalysis data. Using this dataset, we investigated the structure of the Kuroshio acceleration. The increase in
