Obstruction of biodiversity conservation by minimum patch size criteria
Abstract Minimum patch size criteria for habitat protection reflect the conservation principle that a single large (SL) patch of habitat has higher biodiversity than several small (SS) patches of the same total area (SL > SS). Nonetheless, this principle is often incorrect, and biodiversity conservation requires placing more emphasis on protection of ...

The role of cell size in shaping responses to oxygen and temperature in fruit flies
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract The body size of an animal is strongly coupled to key ecological traits such as fecundity, mortality and growth. Ectothermic animals mature at smaller body sizes in warmer conditions and under low oxygen availability (hypoxia).

How to prioritize species recovery after a megafire
Abstract Due to climate change, megafires are increasingly common and have sudden, extensive impacts on many species over vast areas, leaving decision makers uncertain about how best to prioritize recovery. We devised a decision‐support framework to prioritize conservation actions to improve species outcomes immediately after a megafire.

We used artificial, plasticine prey to assess temporal (day‐ versus nighttime) and spatial (pubescent versus glabrous host plant) variation in predation in two Panamanian rainforests. We compared attacks on caterpillar‐ and humanoid‐shaped figurines to test whether model prey shape is as important for prey recognition by predators as often assumed.

Abstract The value of saline lakes and associated wetlands as habitats in the xeric Great Basin is dependent on having water of sufficient quantity and quality to support wetland‐dependent birds. To inform conservation and management of these habitats, models are needed to link birds and hydrological changes due to climate and human water use.

Metodología de superficie de respuesta dual con variables de ruido cualitativas
The application of the response surface methodology in the optimization of industrial processes has had a great boom in recent decades, however, with a significant limitation, the null inclusion of qualitative factors in the noise variables. Since the methodology assumes the behavior of the noise factors as a continuous behavioral variable that follows
