Abstract The interaction between both superior colliculi through the collicular commissure was studied in cats. Stimulation of the optic tract and superior colliculus elicited a positive potential on the contralateral superior colliculus, recorded between 1.5- and 4.5- or 5.0-mm depth.

A study was conducted to destroy two specific areas of the cat's visual system in order to determine if these lesions would affect the visual inhibition of calorically-induced vestibular nystagmus. The occipital visual cortex was removed in eight cats and the superior colliculi were removed bilaterally in nine cats.

Contribution of the superior colliculi to post-stroke unilateral spatial neglect and recovery
Neuropsychologia, 2010Unilateral spatial neglect (USN) is a highly prevalent and disabling consequence of stroke that often responds poorly to existing interventions. Its underlying neural mechanisms are still unclear. Recent work suggests that post-stroke USN may be partly related to a disruption of top-down and bottom-up control of visual attention mediated in part ...

Evidence that superior colliculi are involved in the control of amygdala-kindled seizures
Neuroscience Letters, 1990The effects of bilateral high radiofrequency lesions of superior colliculus (SC) were studied on amygdala kindling. The results demonstrate that a selective destruction of the SC only slightly facilitated the development of kindling. However, the most remarkable effect was the increase of afterdischarge and motor seizure duration observed when SC ...

Auditory and visual interactions between the superior and inferior colliculi in the ferret
European Journal of Neuroscience, 2015AbstractThe integration of visual and auditory spatial information is important for building an accurate perception of the external world, but the fundamental mechanisms governing such audiovisual interaction have only partially been resolved. The earliest interface between auditory and visual processing pathways is in the midbrain, where the superior (

Some Observations on the Superior Colliculi of the Cat by J. Altman
The observations I should like to communicate to you in this discussion on the optic tectum were made by Dr. Joseph Altman in the course of his work for a doctoral dissertation2. Dr. Joseph Altman undertook these studies for three reasons: 1. Just as Professor Doty, he believes that the optic tectum may play a greater role in the visually-guided

The superior colliculi were removed in rats at either one or five days of age or in adulthood. Seven months later they were tested on four successively presented two-choice intensity discriminations. The intensity difference between the discriminanda was reduced across the four problems to encourage choice by comparison.

It has been demonstrated in experiments in rats in which kindling was induced by repeated subconvulsive doses of picrotoxin (1.0 mg/kg) that the bilateral microinjection of picrotoxin, bicuculline, and penicillin into the deep layers of the superior colliculi of the corpora quadrigemina leads to the appearance of a generator of pathologically ...
