The Superior Colliculi and Eye Movements

open access: closedArchives of Neurology, 1966
FOR ALMOST a century the superior colliculi have been considered as important structures in oculomotor functions. This concept originated in 1870 when Adamiik observed conjugate eye movements upon electric stimulation of the tectum.1It was then that the hypothesis of a gaze "center" was introduced and remained unchallenged until Bernheimer2and Ferrier ...

THE SUPERIOR COLLICULI

open access: closedArchives of Surgery, 1939
The function of the collicular bodies of the quadrigeminal plate in man, and particularly that of the superior (or anterior) colliculi, remains undetermined. Not only has little experimental work been devoted to the problem, but little suitable human material has been available for study.

Superior Colliculi Involvement in Poststroke Unilateral Spatial Neglect: A Pilot Study

open access: closedTopics in Stroke Rehabilitation, 2011
The neural mechanisms underlying unilateral spatial neglect (USN) are unclear. The superior colliculi (SC) may be involved in USN expression, and the spatial summation effect (SSE), where reaction times to bilateral stimuli are faster than to unilateral, may be a behavioral index of SC function.
