Performance analysis of superposition coded modulation

Physical Communication, 2010
This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of superposition coded modulation (SCM). Two types of SCM schemes, i.e., the single-code SCM (SC-SCM) and multi-code SCM (MC-SCM), are analyzed. The basic features of SCM are described, followed by the information-theoretic analysis. Different encoding/decoding strategies are compared from the capacity point

Superposition coding for side-information channels

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2006
We present simple, practical codes designed for the binary and Gaussian dirty-paper channels. We show that the dirty-paper decoding problem can be transformed into an equivalent multiple-access decoding problem, for which we apply superposition coding. Our concept is a generalization of the nested lattices approach of Zamir, Shamai, and Erez.

Superposition block coded modulation

CCECE 2003 - Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering. Toward a Caring and Humane Technology (Cat. No.03CH37436), 2004
In this paper, we introduce a novel superposition coded modulation (SCM) scheme that uses block codes as the component codes. The proposed scheme is termed as superposition block coded modulation (SBCM). An SBCM system example with very simple component codes is presented.

Opportunistic beamforming with superposition coding

2011 IEEE 19th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU), 2011
This paper proposes opportunistic beamforming with multiple orthogonal beams and superposition coding on each beam for the downlink transmission in a single-cell environment. By exploiting limited feedback SINRs, the base station schedules simultaneous data transmission on multiple beams to the pairs of users with the largest SINRs. This paper presents

A cooperative transmission design combining network coding and superposition coding

2010 International Conference on Wireless Communications & Signal Processing (WCSP), 2010
This paper deals with the design of transmit scheme for the network with two source-destination pairs. A joint network coding (NC) and superposition coding (JNS) scheme is proposed to realize a cooperative transmission between two pairs. The use of NC is able to improve spectral efficiency over classical decode and forward (DF) relaying strategy by ...

Logical Superposition Coded Video Multicast/Broadcast

IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2017
Joint source and channel coding (JSCC) has been widely reported for its superb capability in mitigating the legacy channel/user diversity problem in the wireless multicast/broadcast scenario, where the successively refined source information is manipulatively mapped with superimposed channel symbols via superposition coding (SPC).

Superposition network coded cooperation for wireless networks

Transactions on Emerging Telecommunications Technologies, 2016
AbstractCooperative diversity is an innovative approach to improve the reliability of communication. Although this technique is considered in the next‐generation mobile communication standards, it has its own challenges in practice. For example, in simultaneous transmission‐based cooperative protocols, perfect synchronisation of nodes is very hard to ...

Superposition coding for cooperative BICM-OFDM systems

2011 Conference Record of the Forty Fifth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers (ASILOMAR), 2011
In this paper, we study a cooperative diversity scheme for wireless systems based on symbol level superposition coding and the combination of bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). The considered system comprises multiple sources, a single relay, and one common destination.

Algebraic Superposition of LDGM Codes for Cooperative Diversity

2007 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory, 2007
This paper presents a technique for achieving cooperative spatial diversity using serially concatenated low density generator matrix (LDGM) codes. Specifically, we consider a scenario in which a pair of transceivers employ algebraic superposition of error control codes to effect spatial diversity at their common destination.

Performance Evaluation of Superposition Coding in Downlink LTE

2015 IEEE 82nd Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC2015-Fall), 2015
In this paper, two issues in assessing the performance of superposition coding (SC) in the downlink Long Term Evolution (LTE) are investigated. The first issue is the prediction of user's signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) at the scheduler based on the user's channel state information (CSI) feedback, when the actual transmission scheme is ...
