Brain strain: Blood flow and metabolism in environmental extremes

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract This narrative review compares and contrasts the most commonly encountered environmental stressors on human cerebrovascular functioning. From high altitude and space, extreme apnoea, heat and cold stress, the impact of these stressors on the regulation of cerebral blood flow (CBF) and oxygen metabolism (CMRO2${\mathrm{CM}}{{\mathrm{R}}_ ...

Assessing the within‐site variability and apparent reproducibility of soil organic carbon fractionation methods in subsoil

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 9, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract Soil organic carbon (SOC) fractionation methods are widely used to assess different carbon (C) pools, but their reproducibility, particularly with depth, remains unclear. This study evaluated the within‐site variability of chemical and physical fractionation methods for SOC at 0‐ to 30‐cm and 30‐ to 60‐cm depths across four apple (Malus ...
