Temporal and Functional Profiling of the Microbiome of High and Low Nitrogen Content Barley Seed in Silo Storage

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
Combined metataxonomic, metagenomic, and metaproteomic profiling of barley grain across 9 months of storage reveals a core microbiome characterized by Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Ascomycota, with genera such as Erwinia, Pantoea, and Pseudomonas persisting throughout.

Concomitant Mineral Carbonation and CO2 Reduction in Short‐Term Water‐Basalts Reaction: Difference Between Basaltic Glass and Basaltic Crystals

open access: yesGlobal Challenges, Volume 10, Issue 8, August 2026.
Short‐term CO2–water reactions show that crystalline basalt undergoes more extensive carbonation than basaltic glass and is associated with detectable H2 and higher CO and CH4 concentrations. This contrast is consistent with the greater early reactivity of Fe‐ and Mg‐bearing crystalline phases, indicating that basalt mineralogy influences coupled ...

A Mechanistic Review of Environmental Stressor to Decode Their Effect on Congenital Malformations: A Developmental Toxicity

open access: yesJournal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, Volume 40, Issue 8, August 2026.
Environmental toxicants may disrupt developmental pathways via strong molecular docking interactions with hub FGF proteins (FGF9 and FGF4) like dibenzo‐p‐dioxin (−7.2 kcal/mol) at the ASN146 residue of FGF9, driving congenital malformations as revealed by PPI networks and toxicity profiling.

Evaluation of Boron/Strontium Co‐Substituted‐Hydroxyapatite Incorporated Collagen Composite Scaffolds: Physicochemical, Thermal, Mechanical, Biological, and Sustained‐Release Investigations

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, Volume 311, Issue 8, August 2026.
A collagen‐based composite scaffold containing boron/strontium co‐substituted hydroxyapatite is developed to enhance the bioactivity of collagen through the incorporation of bioactive ions. This composite exhibits good stability and improved mechanical properties compared to collagen.

Copper Slag‐Derived Cu3Fe17@C Alloy Enabling Efficient Peroxymonosulfate Activation for Levofloxacin Degradation via Cu‐Mediated Electron Transfer With Suppressed Metal Leaching

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Although alloy‐based materials present potential for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation, metal ion leaching remains severely restricted during the pollution degradation process. Herein, the porous carbon‐supported Fe–Cu alloy derived from industrial copper slag was prepared to remove the organic pollutants from wastewater while inhibiting the ...
