The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The effects of in-person-supervised, tele-supervised, and unsupervised stabilization exercises on pain, functionality, and kinesiophobia in patients with chronic low back pain: a randomized, single-blind trial

open access: yes, 2023
Background The efficacy of various supervision methods for stabilization exercises in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP) remains uncertain. Objective To evaluate the impact of supervised and unsupervised stabilization exercises in patients with ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Propensity Score Analysis of the Utility of Supervised Perioperative Abdominal Wall Exercises for the Prevention of Parastomal Hernia

open access: yesNursing Reports
Retrospective studies have suggested that performing perioperative abdominal wall exercises may decrease the incidence of parastomal hernias. Objectives: This study seeks to assess the usefulness of supervised preoperative and postoperative abdominal ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Christians as Citizens of a Persecuting State: A Theological and Ethical Reflection in an Historical Perspective

open access: yesБогословські роздуми: Східноєвропейський журнал богословʼя, 2006
This article explores the Christian experience in an environment of persecution. Five case studies throw light on theological and ethical dilemmas and challenges which persecuted Christians in different historical periods have had to face.
