Potentiating Cerebral Perfusion Normalizes Glymphatic Dynamics in Systemic Inflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
LPS‐induced systemic inflammation increases glymphatic influx but delays cervical lymphatic drainage, accompanied by AQP4 depolarization and impaired glymphatic clearance. Enhancing cerebral blood flow via the inotropic agent levosimendan effectively restored AQP4 polarization, improving glymphatic flux and amyloid‐β clearance.

Chronic subdural hematoma: Influence of head position (head low/supine) postoperatively on recurrence rate after burr hole craniotomy

open access: yesJournal of the Scientific Society, 2014
Introduction and Objective: Chronic subdural hematoma is the most common traumatic intra-cranial hemorrhage in elderly. It has serious morbidity and mortality, but good surgical prognosis.

Comparison of three-dimensional facial morphology between upright and supine positions employing three-dimensional scanner from live subjects [PDF]

open access: yes
Facial soft tissue thicknesses (FSTT) measurements collected from Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography (CT) imaging techniques are most commonly taken in the supine position for forensic craniofacial reconstruction.

Plantar fascia evaluation with a dedicated magnetic resonance scanner in weight-bearing position: our experience in patients with plantar fasciitis and in healthy volunteers. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Purpose. This study assessed the usefulness of upright weight-bearing examination of the ankle/hind foot performed with a dedicated magnetic resonance (MR)imaging scanner in the evaluation of the plantar fascia in healthy volunteers and in patients with

Stabilized Ion Selectivity Corrects Activation Drift in Kalium Channelrhodopsins

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
As newly emerged optogenetic tools, potassium channelrhodopsins (KCRs) can drift from inhibition to activation during illumination as K⁺ selectivity declines. It is shown that both the absolute K⁺/Na⁺ permeability ratio and its stability over time govern this drift, identify KCR1‐C29D as a reliably inhibitory variant, and outline design principles for ...

An Aptamer‐Based EXACT Anticoagulant as a Sustainable, Animal‐Free Alternative to Unfractionated Heparin

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By simply conjugating thrombin's active‐site inhibitor, dabigatran, with an exosite inhibitor, aptamer HD1, the resulting EXosite‐ACTive site (EXACT) inhibitors show two orders of magnitude higher potency and selectivity via synergistic binding, while maintaining the aptamer's antidote‐reversible trait, yielding a potential substitute for the animal ...

Is it possible to establish reference values for ankle muscle isokinetic strength? A meta-analytical study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BACKGROUND: The importance of measuring ankle muscle strength (AMS) has been demonstrated in a variety of clinical areas. Much data has been accumulated using the Cybex Norm isokinetic dynamometer but a uniform framework does not exist.

Skeletal Muscle HSF1 Alleviates Age‐Associated Sarcopenia and Mitochondrial Function Decline via SIRT3‐PGC1α Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Aged HSF1 muscle‐specific knockout mice show deteriorated muscle atrophy and metabolic dysfunction, while active HSF1 overexpression improves muscle function via activating SIRT3 to deacetylate both PGC1α1 and PGC1α4, which boosts mitochondrial function and muscle hypertrophy in a fiber‐type specific manner, and induces FNDC5/Irisin for tissue ...

Piezo1 Upregulation in Monocyte‐Derived Macrophages Impairs Post‐Myocardial Infarction Cardiac Repair via Defective Efferocytosis and Enhanced Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reports early Piezo1 activation in bone marrow monocyte‐derived macrophages (MoMs) during myocardial infarction (MI), which governs the fate and function of recruited macrophages. The recruited MoMs with increased Piezo1 expression exhibit increased ferroptosis and defective efferocytosis, delayed clearance of dead cells and resolution of ...
