SUPPLEMENTARY FEEDING OF SCHOOL CHILDREN

Two comparisons of fruit and milk as supplementary lunches for school children have been carried out by this department. The first was made by Margaret S. Chaney 1 in 1923 at the Claremont school in Oakland, with 200 undernourished children as subjects. These children were all 7 per cent or more underweight according to the Wood standard.

Maternal-Child Supplementary Feeding Programmes in Haiti

In a study of privately sponsored supplementary feeding programs for mothers and children in Haiti the activities of 39 of 519 centers were randomly selected for evaluation. Most of the beneficiaries were children with only 18 centers providing maternal supplements to pregnant women and only 7 lactating women.
