GABAergic projection from the arcuate nucleus to the supraoptic nucleus in the rat

Neuroscience Letters, 2000
Electrical stimulation of the neurones in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus results in a transient inhibition followed by a marked post-stimulus excitation of magnocellular neurones of the supraoptic nucleus. Microdialysis administration of the gamma-aminobutyric acid agonist (GABA(A)), muscimol, directly into the supraoptic nucleus inhibited both ...

Electrophysiological evidence for a projection from the arcuate nucleus to the supraoptic nucleus

Neuroscience Letters, 1988
The electrical activity of single neurones in the hypothalamic arcuate and supraoptic nuclei was recorded in urethane-anaesthetized rats. Stimulus pulses applied to the supraoptic nucleus antidromically activated 3 out of 41 cells recorded in the ipsilateral arcuate nucleus, confirming that there is a projection from the arcuate nucleus to the region ...

Calcium-dependent potassium conductance in rat supraoptic nucleus neurosecretory neurons.

Journal of Neurophysiology, 1985
Intracellular recordings of rat supraoptic nucleus neurons were obtained from perfused hypothalamic explants. Individual action potentials were followed by hyperpolarizing afterpotentials (HAPs) having a mean amplitude of -7.4 +/- 0.8 mV (SD).

Quantitative Histochemistry of Rat Supraoptic Nucleus

1971
1. The activities of 2 enzymes of the hexose-monophosphate shunt and the enzymes of the Golgi apparatus were measured by quantitative histochemical methods in histologically pure supraoptic nucleus. 2. The activities of the Golgi-associated TPPase and NDPase seem to be reliable parameters of neurosecretory activity. 3.

Maturation of the supraoptic nucleus: A multidisciplinary analysis

Peptides, 1980
Abstract The ontogeny of the rat supraoptic nucleus (SON) has been studied with several different techniques: Microscopic and ultrastructural evaluation of cytodifferentiation of the nucleus, radioimmunoassay of vasopressin (VP) and oxytocin (OT) content of the hypothalamo-neurohypophyseal system, immunocytochemical evaluation of neurophysin (NP ...

Glial Limitans Elasticity Subjacent to the Supraoptic Nucleus

Journal of Neuroendocrinology, 2004
AbstractTwo previous studies from our laboratory have indicated that the ventral glial limitans subjacent to the hypothalamic supraoptic nucleus (SON‐VGL) undergoes a reversible thinning upon chronic activation of the magnocellular neuroendocrine cells (MNCs) of the supraoptic nucleus (SON). Numerous other studies have shown that MNC somata hypertrophy

Neurosecretory activity in supraoptic nucleus of normal rats

Zeitschrift fr Zellforschung und Mikroskopische Anatomie, 1966
The secretory rhythm of neurosecretory cells was studied in supraoptic nuclei of normally drinking rats. Both nuclei were divided in five zones, and in each one, the nuclear and nucleolar volumes of 50 neurons were measured. Parallel observations were made on the Nissl material and neurosecretory granules.

Dendritic trees of neurones in the rat supraoptic nucleus

Neuroscience, 1982
The cytoarchitecture of the rat supraoptic nucleus was studied using the Golgi-Cox method with a neutral red or Cresyl violet counterstain to allow the limits of the nucleus to be determined accurately. A small number of stained neurones were seen in each of the brains sectioned but they were unevenly distributed in the supraoptic nucleus.

Neuron–glia interactions in the rat supraoptic nucleus

2008
The adult hypothalamo-neurohypophysial system undergoes a striking activity-dependent morphological remodelling that modifies the glial enwrapping of its magnocellular neurons. Although the functional consequences of such remodelling remain hypothetical, recent evidence has provided new insights into the repercussions of glial environment modifications

Direct catecholaminergic projection from nucleus tractus solitarii to supraoptic nucleus

Brain Research, 1988
To determine whether the supraoptic nucleus (SON) receives a direct projection from catecholamine cells of the nucleus tractus solitarii (NTS), retrograde transport of rhodamine-tagged latex microspheres was combined with a procedure for the fluorescence histochemical visualization of catecholamines.
