Dendritic trees of neurones in the rat supraoptic nucleus

Neuroscience, 1982
The cytoarchitecture of the rat supraoptic nucleus was studied using the Golgi-Cox method with a neutral red or Cresyl violet counterstain to allow the limits of the nucleus to be determined accurately. A small number of stained neurones were seen in each of the brains sectioned but they were unevenly distributed in the supraoptic nucleus.

Electrophysiological evidence for a projection from the arcuate nucleus to the supraoptic nucleus

Neuroscience Letters, 1988
The electrical activity of single neurones in the hypothalamic arcuate and supraoptic nuclei was recorded in urethane-anaesthetized rats. Stimulus pulses applied to the supraoptic nucleus antidromically activated 3 out of 41 cells recorded in the ipsilateral arcuate nucleus, confirming that there is a projection from the arcuate nucleus to the region ...

GABAergic projection from the arcuate nucleus to the supraoptic nucleus in the rat

Neuroscience Letters, 2000
Electrical stimulation of the neurones in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus results in a transient inhibition followed by a marked post-stimulus excitation of magnocellular neurones of the supraoptic nucleus. Microdialysis administration of the gamma-aminobutyric acid agonist (GABA(A)), muscimol, directly into the supraoptic nucleus inhibited both ...

Somatic spines in the supraoptic nucleus of the rat hypothalamus

Cell and Tissue Research, 1974
Electron microscopic studies of ultrathin serial sections of the perikarya and adjacent neuropil of neurons of the supraoptic nucleus (SON) of the adult male rat revealed varying forms of two types of somatic spines. One type forms synapses with axons passing the cell, the other, without synapses, appears to serve as a buttress or clasp for adjacent ...

Intra-supraoptic nucleus sulpiride improves anorexia in tumor-bearing rats

Neuroreport, 2001
Previous studies suggest that the dopaminergic system in the supraoptic nucleus (SON) is involved not only in the water balance control but also in the food intake regulation. Since we reported that an injection of the D2 receptor antagonist, sulpiride, into specific hypothalamic nuclei (e.g.

Time of Cell Origin in Mouse Supraoptic Nucleus

1978
The advantages of autoradiographic study of neurocytogenesis utilizing 3H-thymidine have already been established (ANGEVINE and SIDMAN, 1961; FUJITA and MIYAKE, 1962; etc.). Recently IFFT (1972), and SHIMADA and NAKAMURA (1973) studied the time of final division of matrix cells before their migration to the hypothalamic nuclei, using tritiated ...

Cytoarchitecture of the supraoptic nucleus. A Golgi study.

Neuroendocrinology, 1980
A Golgi-Cox study of the supraoptic nucleus of the adult rabbit has revealed the presence of three major cell types: (1) large multipolar neurons; (2) large bipolar neurons, and (3) small interneurons. The multipolar and bipolar neurons demonstrated regional variation in the rostral and caudal aspects of this nucleus, while the interneurons appeared ...
