Investigating the relationship between quantitative‐based ultrasound and MRI estimations of rotator cuff fatty infiltration

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Ultrasound, Volume 52, Issue 4, Page 343-352, May 2024.
Fatty infiltration (FI) of the rotator cuff is an important clinical outcome. Quantitative‐based ultrasound methods to estimate FI of the supraspinatus and infraspinatus were compared to MRI fat fractions. Preliminary evidence suggests ultrasound may be used to estimate FI.

Morphological variations of suprascapular notch with incidence of suprascapular foramen: An Anatomical study

open access: yes, 2015
Introduction: The suprascapular notch is a depression in the lateral part of superior border of the scapula. The superior transverse scapular ligament bridges the notch and sometimes get ossified to form bony foramen. The suprascapular nerve and vein pass ...

The suprascapular vein: A possible etiology for suprascapular nerve entrapment and risk of complication during procedures around the suprascapular foramen region

open access: yes, 2014
IntroductionNerve can be compressed when traveling through any osteo-fibrous tunnel. Any eventual anatomic structure limiting this passage increases the risk of neuropathy.

An unusual case of suprascapular nerve neuropathy: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports, 2011
Introduction Suprascapular nerve neuropathy constitutes an unusual cause of shoulder weakness, with the most common etiology being nerve compression from a ganglion cyst at the suprascapular or spinoglenoid notch. We present a puzzling case of a man with

Variations in suprascapular notch morphology and its clinical importance

open access: yes, 2017
Background: Suprascapular notch (SSN) is present towards the medial end of superior border of scapula. The morphometric variations of the SSN have been identified.

Transcapsular Decompression of Shoulder Ganglion Cysts

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, 2018
Paralabral cysts are an increasingly recognized cause of suprascapular nerve (SSN) impingement, often causing insidious weakness in the rotator cuff. Compression at the suprascapular notch is often due to the presence of a SLAP tear and leads to pain ...

Suprascapular Nerve: Is It Important in Cuff Pathology?

open access: yesAdvances in Orthopedics, 2012
Suprascapular nerve and rotator cuff function are intimately connected. The incidence of suprascapular neuropathy has been increasing due to improved understanding of the disease entity and detection methods.

Anatomical features of suprascapular notch: correlation with scapular dimension and clinical relevance.

open access: yes, 2012
Introduction An improved knowledge of the suprascapular notch anatomy may help to prevent and to well-assess the suprascapular nerve entrapment syndrome.

BONY SUPRASCAPULAR FORAMEN, A POTENTIAL SITE FOR SUPRASCAPULAR NERVE ENTRAPMENT: A MORPHOLOGICAL STUDY ON DRIED HUMAN SCAPULAE

open access: yes, 2020
Introduction: The superior transverse scapular ligament (STSL) is present above the suprascapular notch . It joins the two superior corners of this notch and converts it into suprascapular foramen through which passes the suprascapular nerve , while the ...

Anatomical evidence for a uniquely positioned suprascapular foramen

open access: yes, 2016
International audienceThe suprascapular foramen is a rare but not exceptional variation of the suprascapular notch. The suprascapular notch and suprascapular foramen could lead to pain and muscles atrophy because of nerve compression.
