Effects of Interaction Between Surface Active Elements on the Surface Tension of Iron

Canadian Metallurgical Quarterly, 1982
AbstractSurface tension data at 1650°C have been measured for the Fe + S + O ternary system and the two binary systems, Fe + O and Fe + S using the levitated drop technique. The results indicate that the reductions in surface tension due to oxygen and to sulphur are essentially additive in the ternary system.

Prediction of the effects of surface-active elements on gas-liquid metal kinetics

Metallurgical Transactions B, 1982
Equations have been developed for calculating the fraction of free surface, 1-θT, when two or more surface-active elements (S, O,Se,etc.) are present in liquid iron or its alloys. It is shown that equations of the form k =A Vl-θT -B well describe the essentially linear plots which represent the variation of rate constant k with ...

Modeling of the effects of surface-active elements on flow patterns and weld penetration

Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B, 2001
A mathematical model was developed to calculate the transient temperature and velocity distributions in a stationary gas tungsten arc (GTA) weld pool of 304 stainless steels with different sulfur concentrations. A parametric study showed that, depending upon the sulfur concentration, one, two, or three vortexes may be found in the weld pool.

The Effect of Surface-Active Elements on the Growth of Iron Nitride Precipitates in Ferrite

Metal Science, 1975
AbstractThe growth of γl–Fe4N precipitates at 350° C has been followed in Fe–0·05 wt.-%N alloys containing controlled oxygen and phosphorus levels. The marked retarding effect of small quantities of these elements on the coarsening of the nitride particles is demonstrated for a range of alloys.

Effects of surface active elements on weld pool fluid flow and weld penetration in gas metal arc welding

Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B, 2001
This article presents a mathematical model simulating the effects of surface tension (Maragoni effect) on weld pool fluid flow and weld penetration in spot gas metal arc welding (GMAW). Filler droplets driven by gravity, electromagnetic force, and plasma arc drag force, carrying mass, thermal energy, and momentum, periodically impinge onto the weld ...

Effect of Admixtures of Surface-Active Elements in Fe – C – Si Alloys Under Rapid Solidification of Melt on the Quality of Structural Articles

Metal Science and Heat Treatment, 2016
Computer and experimental studies of the effect of admixtures of Te and H2 surface-active elements (s.a.e.) on the kinetics of nucleation of crystallization centers and phase growth under accelerated crystallization of eutectic cast iron are performed. It is shown that under quenching cooling with decelerated diffusion processes the admixtures of s.a.e.

Surface Activation for Wear Investigation of Precise Elements

Isotopenpraxis Isotopes in Environmental and Health Studies, 1984
Application of the surface activation method to wear investigation of precise elements forms some specific problems. Parameters affecting the activity distribution in the active layer, the influence of surface irregularities on local changes in a specific activity, as well as the methods of measurement of very low activities are discussed in this paper.

Adding Active Elements to Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces to Enhance Energy Harvesting for IoT Devices

IEEE Military Communications Conference, 2021
Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) panels with passive and active elements significantly enhance Internet of Things (IoT) systems performance by, respectively, reflecting and amplifying incident signals to receiving entities.
