Composite optical elements for high-power lasers made by Surface Activated Direct Bonding

2020 International Conference Laser Optics (ICLO), 2020
Surface Activated Direct Bonding method is realized for manufacturing composites from dissimilar materials for high power lasers. Yb:YAG/Sapphire active element for thin-disk laser and TGG/Sapphire for high-power Faraday isolator is made for the first time. The advantages of new composites are demonstrated.

Development of new deep drawing steels by doping with surface active elements

Steel Research, 1999
In this study, the effects of doping with the surface‐active elements Ge, Te, Se, As, Sb and Sn in atomic mass contents of 10 to 200 ppm on the texture and drawability of an IF‐steel (FeP06, DIN‐EN 10130) and an ELC‐steel (FeP05, DIN‐EN 10130) were investigated.

Investigation of influence of surface activator element on scandate cathodes work function

IVESC 2012, 2012
The surface analysis of scandate cathodes has revealed that active substances of Ba, Sc and O formed a layer on the surface of the cathodes. By using First-principles calculation method, the W and Ba-Sc-O-W systems were calculated to study the effect of active elements on the work function of the cathode.

Role of Oxygen as Surface-Active Element in Linear GTA Welding Process

Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 2013
Although the surface-active elements such as oxygen and sulfur have an adverse effect on momentum transport in liquid metals during fusion welding, such elements can be used beneficially up to a certain limit to increase the weld penetration in the gas tungsten arc (GTA) welding process.

Effects of Surface Active Element on the Biocompatibility of High Nitrogen Stainless Steel

Key Engineering Materials, 2011
Nickel-free high nitrogen stainless steel has become more important due to its impressive mechanical and corrosion properties. In contrast to high pressure processes, melting plasma in a normal atmosphere is an alternative way of obtaining high nitrogen content at low cost. However, melting in such an atmosphere will bring some surface impurities, like

Creation of Composite Optical Elements by the Ion-Beam Surface-Activation Method for Laser Applications

Journal of Surface Investigation: X-ray, Synchrotron and Neutron Techniques, 2020
A method for creating composite active elements from dissimilar optical materials, which consists in treating surfaces with a beam of heavy argon ions and forming an optical contact between the surfaces, is implemented and tested. Composite active elements Yb:YAG/YAG and Yb:YAG/sapphire in the geometry of a thin disk are created.

An Active Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface Utilizing Phase-Reconfigurable Reflection Amplifiers

IEEE transactions on microwave theory and techniques, 2023
Active reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) have recently been proposed to complement and generalize passive RIS. In this work, the design for an active RIS based on phase-reconfigurable reflection amplifiers is proposed.

25 The Surface Activity of Metalloids and Elemental Semiconductors

1957
A previous exploratory study of the activity of evaporated films of the metals in gas chemisorption has now been complemented by a similar study of the metalloids (As, Sb, and Bi) and of the elemental semiconductors Se and Te. These elements prove to have lower activity than the metals, while As, Sb, and Bi are rather more active than Se and Te.

Peripherally Excited Phased Array Architecture for Beam Steering with Reduced Number of Active Elements

IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 2020
An electronically scannable phased array antenna architecture is proposed with a drastically reduced number of active antenna elements. The proposed approach is based on the concept of Huygens’ metasurfaces, where the fields in a given region are ...
