Manipulation of the graphene surface potential by ion irradiation

open access: yes, 2013
We show that the work function of exfoliated single layer graphene can be modified by irradiation with swift (E_{kin}=92 MeV) heavy ions under glancing angles of incidence. Upon ion impact individual surface tracks are created in graphene on SiC.

Overview of molecular signatures of senescence and associated resources: pros and cons

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cells can enter a stress response state termed cellular senescence that is involved in various diseases and aging. Detecting these cells is challenging due to the lack of universal biomarkers. This review presents the current state of senescence identification, from biomarkers to molecular signatures, compares tools and approaches, and highlights ...

Surface Modification via Click Chemistry Enhances CO2 Reduction Selectivity between C2+/C1 on Shape‐Controlled Cu2O

open access: yesChemistryEurope
Molecular fabrication of metal surfaces has potential to harness diverse surface processes, such as CO2 electrolysis on copper. CO2 reduction is influenced not only by the local environment of the active copper atom but also by the surface atomic order ...

High-Pressure Torsion and Anodic Oxidation as a Method for Surface Engineering of Ti-13Nb-13Zr Biomedical Alloy

open access: yesMetals
The anodic oxidation technique was used for surface modification, resulting in the creation of a titanium-based nanotube oxide layer on a coarse-grained and ultrafine-grained Ti-13Nb-13Zr alloy. The modified surface morphology was analyzed using scanning

Diabetes‐induced vascular calcification is associated with low pyrophosphate and its oral supplementation prevents calcification in diabetic mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Induction of diabetes in three different mouse strains uniformly resulted in an increase in TNAP activity and a reduction in pyrophosphate (PPi) in the circulation. Inhibition of TNAP restored plasma PPi. Diabetes‐induced calcification in the media layer of the aorta was detected only in the Abcc6−/− strain, which is predisposed to ectopic ...

Comparative assessment of hemocompatibility of the suture material modified with heparin using different techniques

open access: yesСибирский научный медицинский журнал
Postoperative complications in surgery, including thrombosis, are often associated with the suture material. The search for new types of suture materials that reduce the risk of vascular anastomotic complications remains an urgent task.

Antibiofilm activity of a chionodracine‐derived peptide by NMR‐based metabolomics of cell‐free supernatant of Acinetobacter baumannii clinical strains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KHS‐Cnd peptide is able to impair biofilm formation and disaggregate mature biofilms in Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolates. Differences in extracellular metabolites reflect changes in biofilm metabolism due to KHS‐Cnd treatment. Among the differentially represented extracellular metabolites upon KHS‐Cnd treatment, the significantly altered ...

Subsidence characteristics of mining affected boundary area and modified surface subsidence prediction model under thick unconsolidated layer

open access: yesMeitan xuebao
When the upper part of coal-bearing strata is covered by the thick unconsolidated layer, the boundary area of the subsidence basin induced by coal mining exhibits a distinctive phenomenon of range expansion and slow convergence.
