Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Drawing On Surfaces

open access: yes, 2022
Vector graphics in 2D is consolidated since decades, as is supported in many design applications, such as Adobe Illustrator, and languages, like Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG). In this thesis, we address the problem of designing algorithms that support the generation of vector graphics on a discrete surface.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

The corrosion resistant coating with halloysite nanoparticles

open access: yesMetalurgija, 2016
The process of application of coating on metal surfaces is described in this article. The composition with 100 % corrosion preventing substance + 42,5 % acetone + 10 % halloysite was recognized as the most appropriate for coating, and it provides the ...

On‐Surface Reactions

open access: yesChemPhysChem, 2015
AbstractOn‐surface synthesis constitutes a rapidly growing field of research due to its promising application for creating stable molecular structures on surfaces. While self‐assembled structures rely on reversible interactions, on‐surface synthesis provides the potential for creating long‐term stable structures with well‐controlled properties, for ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Control Surface Actuator [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
A device which actuates aircraft control surfaces is disclosed. The actuator is disposed entirely within the control surface structure. This allows the gap between the wing structural box and the control surface to be reduced.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Influence of Titanium Oxide Pillar Array Nanometric Structures and Ultraviolet Irradiation on the Properties of the Surface of Dental Implants—A Pilot Study

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2019
Aim: Titanium implants are commonly used as replacement therapy for lost teeth and much current research is focusing on the improvement of the chemical and physical properties of their surfaces in order to improve the osseointegration process. TiO2, when
