REAL SURFACES IN ELLIPTIC SURFACES [PDF]
We study the structure of complex points on real surfaces, embedded into complex elliptic surfaces. We show, for example, that any compact connected surface has a totally real embedding into a blow-up of a K3 surface. We also exhibit smooth disc bundles over compact connected orientable surfaces that have a Stein structure as Stein domains inside ...

INDECOMPOSABLE SURFACE BUNDLES OVER SURFACES [PDF]
For each pair of integers g ≥ 2 and h ≥ 1, we explicitly construct infinitely many fiber sum and section sum indecomposable genus g surface bundles over genus h surfaces whose total spaces are pairwise homotopy inequivalent.

I review the definition and types of (closed) trapped surfaces. Surprising global properties are shown, such as their "clairvoyance" and the possibility that they enter into flat portions of the spacetime. Several results on the interplay of trapped surfaces with vector fields and with spatial hypersurfaces are presented.

Surface waves in orthotropic incompressible materials [PDF]
The secular equation for surface acoustic waves propagating on an orthotropic incompressible half-space is derived in a direct manner, using the method of first ...

Visualizing Surfaces, Surfacing Vision: Introduction [PDF]
In this Introduction to a special section on ‘Visualizing Surfaces, Surfacing Vision’, the authors argue that to conceive vision in the contemporary world it is necessary to examine its embedding within, expression via and organization on the surface.

Surface to Surface Intersections [PDF]
AbstractThis paper presents an overview of surface intersection problems and focuses on the rational polynomial parametric/rational polynomial parametric surface intersection case including transversal and tangential intersections. Emphasis is placed on marching methods with a discussion of the problems with conventional tracing algorithms. An approach

Development of a Portable Device for Surface Traction Characterization at the Shoe–Floor Interface
Slip and fall accidents are widespread in workplaces and on walkways. Slipping is generally initiated by a sudden change in the flooring properties or due to a low available traction at the shoe–floor interface. To measure shoe-floor traction, mechanical
