The Contribution of Surface Electromyographic Assessment for Defining the Stage of Peripheral Facial Paralysis: Flaccid or Sequelae Stage

open access: yesInternational Archives of Otorhinolaryngology, 2017
Introduction Surface electromyographic activity may not be symmetric, even in subjects with no facial paralysis history. Objective To evaluate the contribution of the index of electromyographic (IEMG) activity in the identification of the ...

On the determination of shifting operators along geodesics on a surface [PDF]

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics, 2013
A procedure to obtain a closed form of the shifting operators along a known geodesic line on a surface as a solution of a system of linear algebraic equations is proposed.

Performance impact of honing dynamics on surface finish of precoated cylinder bores [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The surface modification of engine cylinder bores with improved sliding properties is often produced by the honing process. This multi-stage process is performed using abrasive stones loaded against the bore with simultaneous rotation and oscillation. To

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

On wheel–rail contact surface phenomena with structural changes and ‘White Etching Layers’ generation

open access: yesTransport, 2012
The main aim of this work was a study of the microstructure transformations with the residual stress formation that is induced by rolling contact friction and adhesive wore in the wheel–rail system. Several small railsurface samples, we term them as the ‘

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

TOWARD GEOMORPHOMETRIC MODELING ON A SURFACE OF A TRIAXIAL ELLIPSOID (FORMULATION OF THE PROBLEM)

open access: yesInterCarto. InterGIS, 2017
Geomorphometric modeling is widely used to study multiscale problems of the Earth and planetary sciences. Existing algorithms of geomorphometry can be applied to terrain models given by plane square grids or spheroidal equal angular grids on a surface of
