Fusing Catechol-Driven Surface Anchoring with Rapid Hetero Diels-Alder Ligation.

open access: yesACS Macro Letters, 2014
We fuse the surface anchoring abilities of catechols with the rapid ligating nature of thiocarbonyl thio-based hetero-Diels-Alder (HDA) reactions via the synthesis of a new small molecule (HDA-DOPA-Cp) combining a HDA moiety with a catechol.

Multidentate Anchors for Surface Functionalization

Chemistry – An Asian Journal, 2019
AbstractThe bottom‐up functionalization of solid surfaces shows increasing importance for a wide range of interdisciplinary applications. Multidentate anchors with more than two contact points can bind to solid surfaces with strong chemisorption, well‐defined upright configuration, and tailored functionality.

Photoinduced anchoring on a chalcogenide surface

Physical Review E, 2012
We present basic characteristics and a model of photoinduced anchoring of liquid crystals (LCs) on a chalcogenide surface. It was found that characteristics of the alignment strongly depend on the LC material for the same chalcogenide glass. The photoalignment is partially reversible and can be controlled by changing the light polarization direction ...

Surface anchors target golden bullets

Nature Chemistry, 2018
Gold nanomaterials are attractive for a variety of applications, including in medicine, but need to be made stable enough to operate in biological systems. Now, gold nanorods have been stabilized for photothermal therapy by sequential surface anchoring, using a bidendate PEG-based ligand that features a thiolate moiety and an Au–NHC moiety.

Addressable Carbene Anchors for Gold Surfaces

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2013
New strategies to access functional monolayers could augment current surface modification methods. Here we present addressable N-heterocyclic carbene (ANHC) anchors for gold surfaces. A suite of experimental and theoretical methods was used to characterize ANHC monolayers. We demonstrate grafting of highly fluorinated polymers from surface-bound ANHCs.

Photonic control of surface anchoring on solid colloids dispersed in liquid crystals.

open access: yesLangmuir, 2011
International audienceThe anchoring of liquid-crystal (LC) mesogens to the surfaces of colloids is an important factor in determining intercolloidal interactions and the symmetry of the ensuing colloidal assembly in nematic colloids.

Surface anchoring of nematic liquid crystal on swollen polymer brush studied by surface forces measurement.

Advances in Colloid and Interface Science, 2019
Surface anchoring plays a fundamental role in controlling the molecular alignment of a bulk liquid crystal (LC). It has been previously shown that the pretilt angle of a nematic liquid crystal (NLC) can be controlled by changing the grafting density of a

Anchoring Molecular Magnets on the Si(100) Surface

Angewandte Chemie, 2004
The continuous scaling down of device size in integrated circuits (ICs) has led to many questions about the limitations (lithographic, physical, or economic) of top-down developments of microelectronic devices.
