Keck/LRIS Spectroscopic Confirmation of Coma Cluster Dwarf Galaxy Membership Assignments

open access: yes, 2010
Keck/LRIS multi-object spectroscopy has been carried out on 140 of some of the lowest and highest surface brightness faint (19 < R < 22) dwarf galaxy candidates in the core region of the Coma Cluster.

Surface brightness and evolution of galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1976
It is well known that before the redshift-magnitude diagram of galaxies could be used for determination of the cosmological parameters one must know the evolution of the galaxies. We propose use of apparent surface brightness: which depends only on the redshift and is independent of the cosmological model and the inhomogeneities in the universe: for ...

Breaks in surface brightness profiles and radial abundance gradients in the discs of spiral galaxies

open access: yes, 2017
We examine the relation between breaks in the surface brightness profiles and radial abundance gradients within the optical radius in the discs of 134 spiral galaxies from the CALIFA survey. The distribution of the radial abundance (in logarithmic scale)

A Morphological-type dependence in the mu_0-log(h) plane of Spiral galaxy disks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We present observational evidence for a galaxy `Type' dependence to the location of a spiral galaxy's disk parameters in the mu_0-log(h) (central disk surface-brightness - disk scale-length) plane.

Surface brightness measurements for APM galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
This paper considers some simple surface brightness (SB) estimates for galaxies in the Automated Plate Measuring Machine (APM) catalogue in order to derive homogeneous SB data for a very large sample of faint galaxies.

E2A selectively regulates TGF‐β–induced apoptosis in KRAS‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ability to induce apoptosis by TGF‐β is frequently lost in advanced lung adenocarcinoma despite intact TGF‐β signaling. We identify E2A as a mutant KRAS–dependent mediator of resistance to TGF‐β–induced apoptosis. TGF‐β induces E2A via SMAD3 in mutant KRAS cells, and E2A silencing restores apoptosis and enhances radiation response in cell lines ...

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

Surface Brightness of Starbursts at Low and High Redshifts

open access: yes, 1998
Observations in the rest frame ultraviolet from various space missions are used to define the nearby starburst regions having the highest surface brightness on scales of several hundred pc.

Impact of snow on surface brightness

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1982
The snow‐covered land surface has different albedo than the snow‐free surface, depending primarily on the type and density of the vegetation, the relief, and the continuity and age of the snow blanket. This is clearly demonstrated by the winter mosaic of east central Asia shown on the front cover.

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...
