Superenantioselective Chiral Surface Explosions

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2013
Chiral inorganic materials predated life on Earth, and their enantiospecific surface chemistry may have played a role in the origins of biomolecular homochirality. However, enantiospecific differences in the interaction energies of chiral molecules with chiral surfaces are small and typically lead to modest enantioselectivities in adsorption, catalysis,

A Chiral Metal Surface

Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2001
Pronounced surface restructuring leads to the formation of chiral kink sites when a chiral molecular overlayer (2,5,8,11,14,17-hexa-(tert-butyl)decacyclene) is adsorbed onto an extended, flat metal surface (Cu{110}). The process is proposed to happen as a result of the adsorbed molecule inducing chirality in the achiral surface.

Nanostructured chiral surfaces

Nanotechnology, 1999
Chiral organic surfaces were generated via adsorption of the pure enantiomers of heptahelicene, a helically shaped aromatic hydrocarbon, on a Ni(111) surface in ultra high vacuum. Time-of-flight secondary mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) revealed that the molecule stays intact at room temperature.
