Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

Chiral Metal Surfaces and Nanoparticles

open access: yesCHIMIA, 2008
The surface of metals can exhibit intrinsic chiral structure. Furthermore, chirality can be bestowed onto achiral metal surfaces by adsorption of chiral molecules.

Flexoelectrically Induced Polar Topology in Twisted SrTiO3 Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Twisted SrTiO3 bilayers host polar vortices of flexoelectric origin, revealed through combined experiment and theory. By reconstructing polarization from the toroidal moment of strain gradients, the work establishes a 3D chiral state with broken inversion and mirror symmetries.

Helical Assembly of Long‐Chain Unsubstituted Poly(Para‐Phenylene) Immobilized on Individual Cellulose Nanocrystals

open access: yesAggregate
The synthesis of chiral unsubstituted poly(para‐phenylene) (PPP) chains has remained elusive for decades, with the production of high‐molecular‐weight PPP still inaccessible to date.

Chirality discrimination at the carvone air/liquid interfaces detected by heterodyne-detected sum frequency generation

open access: yesHeliyon, 2019
The chiral signal of the carvone air/liquid interface is probed by heterodyne-detected sum frequency generation (HD-SFG) without the electronic resonance. The chiral SFG spectra exhibit two distinguishable spectral signatures.

Stimulating and harnessing circularly polarized luminescence of helically assembled carbonized polymer dots via interfacial dynamics

open access: yesAggregate, 2023
Stimulating and harnessing circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) is not only a sine qua non for fundamentally unveiling chirogenesis in physical chemistry, but also a pivotal prerequisite for implementation of such phenomenon in research fields ...

Imaging Chirality with Surface Second Harmonic Generation Microscopy

open access: yes, 2016
Chirality is a fundamental construct in nature which arises from an antisymmetric arrangement of atoms, molecules, or larger structures, resulting in the formation of nonsuperimposable mirror images.

Rheotaxis facilitates upstream navigation of mammalian sperm cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A major puzzle in biology is how mammalian sperm maintain the correct swimming direction during various phases of the sexual reproduction process. Whilst chemotaxis may dominate near the ovum, it is unclear which cues guide spermatozoa on their long ...

A Cu‐Based Near‐IR Active MOF with an Ion‐Pair Guest Exhibiting Versatile and Selective Gas‐Solid Reactivity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The new Cu‐containing MOF (Me2NH2)(CuICl2)@[Cu4(INA)4Cl2O]·1.5dmf (3) contains a cation and an anion as guests and shows UV‐near‐mid‐IR absorption and near‐IR emission. MOF 3 shows gas‐solid reactivity in the presence of NH3 and HCOOH to yield two new 3D MOF.
