Elastic-plastic analysis near the crack surface region on a mode III crack under a pair of point forces

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2016
The crack line analysis method is used to obtain the near-crack-surface stress field of a mode III crack loaded by a pair of anti-plane point forces in an elastic-perfectly plastic material, which expands the research method from the crack line region to

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Crack closure effect of fatigue crack under cyclic tensile loading

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
The objective of this study is to evaluate crack growth behavior under cyclic tensile loading considering crack closure effect. Crack growth behavior under cyclic tensile loading on a plate with surface crack is tested.

Characterization of Surface Fatigue Crack Nucleation and Microstructurally Small Crack Growth in High Strength Aluminum Alloys

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2021
It is well established that fatigue crack nucleation and small crack growth in high strength aluminum alloys are highly influenced by the surrounding microstructure including grain boundaries, texture, inclusion barriers, among other factors.

Surface crack and cracks networks in biaxial fatigue

open access: yesEngineering Fracture Mechanics, 2006
Semi-elliptical fatigue crack growth in 304 L stainless steel, under biaxial loading, was investigated. Compared to those of through-cracks under uniaxial loading, the growth rate of surface cracks is increased by a non-singular compressive stress and reduced by a tensile stress, when R = 0.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Development of a fretting-fatigue mapping concept: The effect of material properties and surface treatments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Fretting-fatigue induced by combined localized cyclic contact motion and external bulk fatigue loadings may result in premature and dramatic failure of the contacting components.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Crack path in aeronautical titanium alloy under ultrasonic torsion loading [PDF]

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2016
This paper discusses features of fatigue crack initiation and growth in aeronautical VT3-1 titanium alloy under pure torsion loading in gigacycle regime. Two materials: extruded and forged VT3-1 titanium alloys were studied.
