A TESSELLATION MODEL FOR CRACK PATTERNS ON SURFACES

open access: yesImage Analysis & Stereology, 2011
This paper presents a model of random tessellations that reflect several features of crack pattern. There are already several theoretical results derivedwhich indicate that thismodel can be an appropriate referencemodel. Some potential applications are presented in a tentative statistical study.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Effects of surface oxide layer on fatigue crack propagation properties of submicrometer-thick copper films

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu
Fatigue failure involves fatigue crack initiation and propagation processes. In bulk metals, the fatigue crack initiation process is strongly affected by a dissimilar surface layer, while the fatigue crack propagation process is less affected.

Short crack initiation and growth at 600 °C in notched specimens of Inconel718

open access: yes, 2003
The natural initiation and growth of short cracks in Inconel®718 U-notch specimens has been studied at 600 °C in air. U notches were introduced through broaching, and hardness traces and optical microscopy on cross-sections through the U notch broaching ...

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Determination of fracture mechanics parameters structural components with surface crack under thermomechanical loads [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Technical Review, 2016
Rotational components of aero engine turbine are the most important components. It operates at high temperature and under conditions of extreme environmental attack such as oxidation, corrosion and wear.

Effect of grain disorientation on early fatigue crack propagation in face-centred-cubic polycristals: A three-dimensional dislocation dynamics investigation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Three-dimensional dislocation dynamics simulations are used to study micro-crack interaction with the first micro-structural barrier in face-centred cubic bi-crystals loaded in high cycle fatigue conditions. In the examined configuration, we assumed that

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Fatigue Life Prediction of Pipe with Cracks on External Surface

open access: yesShiyou jixie, 2020
To effectively predict the fatigue crack propagation life of pipe with external surface crack, based on the extended finite element method, the stress intensity factor of the crack on the external surface of the pipe was calculated at different pipe ...
