Nothing moves a surface: vacancy mediated surface diffusion [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2000
We report scanning tunneling microscopy observations, which imply that all atoms in a close-packed copper surface move frequently, even at room temperature.

Abnormal diffusion profile of adatoms on extremely wide terraces of the Si(111) surface [PDF]

open access: yesНаучно-технический вестник информационных технологий, механики и оптики, 2021
The authors experimentally studied the distribution of the adatom concentration on extremely wide terraces of the Si(111) surface whose dimensions are comparable with the diffusion length of adatoms.

Solid state wetting and dynamics of solid surface nanorelief [PDF]

open access: yesФизико-химические аспекты изучения кластеров, наноструктур и наноматериалов, 2018
Using molecular dynamics solid state wetting in the Cu (nanoparticle) / Cu (substrate) system was studied. It has been found that the solid state spreading mechanism corresponds, first of all, to the surface diffusion that was confirmed by the linear ...

Theory of MBE Growth of Nanowires on Adsorbing Substrates: The Role of the Shadowing Effect on the Diffusion Transport

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2022
A new model for nanowire growth by molecular beam epitaxy is proposed which extends the earlier approaches treating an isolated nanowire to the case of ensembles of nanowires.

Long-timescale simulations of H$_2$O admolecule diffusion on Ice Ih(0001) surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Long-timescale simulations of the diffusion of a H$_2$O admolecule on the (0001) basal plane of ice Ih were carried out over a temperature range of 100 to 200 K using the adaptive kinetic Monte Carlo method and TIP4P/2005f interaction potential function.

Triple-Porosity and Dual-Permeability Productivity Prediction Model of CBM Wells Considering Complex Flow Regimes

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2022
The productivity evaluation of CBM wells can yield significant insights into exploring the patterns of CBM production, predicting the effectiveness of the CBM well and reservoir stimulation, optimizing the gas reservoir development program, and ...

Non-Gaussian Diffusion Near Surfaces

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2023
We study the diffusion of particles confined close to a single wall and in double-wall planar channel geometries where the local diffusivities depend on the distance to the boundaries. Displacement parallel to the walls is Brownian as characterized by its variance, but it is non-Gaussian having a non-zero fourth cumulant.

An internal swelling factor model to examine the influence of permeability anisotropy on coalbed methane extraction

open access: yesEnergy Science & Engineering, 2020
Owing to the characteristics of coal reservoirs, the gas flow capacity and permeability exhibit strong anisotropy. The anisotropy in terms of the magnitude, which corresponds to the permeability in the horizontal direction being several orders of ...

Diffusion on Semiconductor Surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics Today, 2001
Atomic-resolution imaging techniques show that a good deal of surface physics can be understood with elementary statistical mechanics, but some surprisingly complex behaviors occur even in simple systems.
