Oversea radar propagation within a surface duct
IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1969In ship-to-ship detectability studies it is important to have a method of estimating oversea radar range distribution. Through the integration of meteorological theory and mode propagation theory, a procedure has been evolved for estimating oversea radar ranges which are found to have excellent agreement with the limited experimental data.

Sea Surface Loss in Surface Ducts and Shallow Water: A Historical Perspective
OCEANS '86, 1986A heuristic treatment is given of the Schulkin-Marsh surface loss expression for acoustic propagation in surface ducts. Its application to the Marsh-Schulkin shallow water propagation model is also discussed. Possible explanations of the surface loss are given in terms of scattering by surface roughness and absorption by bubble layers.

Propagation in surface ducts over irregular terrain
Antennas and Propagation Society Symposium 1991 Digest, 2002The implicit finite difference/Green's function method has been used to analyze the effect of ground roughness and a terrain obstacle on propagation within a surface duct. The effect of mode conversion and roughness amplitude was clearly exhibited.

Surface Duct, Rough Surface Scattering, and Cusped Caustic Improvements for Fact
1981Abstract : The TAEAS Program provides environmental acoustics support to a number of Fleet commands. This support includes the development and maintenance of the tactical prediction model, ASRAP. Recently SAI has developed a set of modifications to the FACT Model (the transmission-loss component of ASRAP) to improve the treatment of surface ducts ...

The Surface Evaporative Duct Height Product: An Evaluation
1987Abstract : The existence of a surface evaporative duct has many serious operational implications. One of the most serious and obvious implications is that the extended range of the radar will allow distant hostile units to detect the radar(and to be detected by the radar).
