Surface Electromyography Meets Biomechanics or Bringing sEMG to Clinical Application

2018
Impaired muscular activation causes pain, disability and loss of quality of life. To preserve and to restore movement performance is a challenge, and technologies enabling more effective treatment have gained high importance. Surface-Electromyography (sEMG) technologies allow the pain-free assessment of muscular activation, but they have rarely been ...

Gait cadence detection based on surface electromyography (sEMG) of lower limb muscles

2014 International Conference on Multisensor Fusion and Information Integration for Intelligent Systems (MFI), 2014
Surface electromyography (sEMG) signals could represent the contractions of muscle activity which contains approximately accurate information about joint movements and motor torque. In this study, a new gait cadence detection method was presented by using the sEMG signals of lower limb muscles.

A Current-Based Surface Electromyography (sEMG) System for Human Motion Recognition: Preliminary Study

2021
The myoelectric interface acts as an important role in the field of wearable robotics. This study explores the current-based sEMG technology for upper-limb motion recognition. Different from the voltage-based sEMG system, the current-based sampling approach can directly extract the current signals and be free from the cross talks.

The Glazer Protocol: Evidence-Based Medicine Pelvic Floor Muscle (PFM) Surface Electromyography (SEMG)

Biofeedback, 2012
The authors cite a Medline review article of biofeedback for urinary incontinence to demonstrate the pervasive lack of standardized operationally defined variables, which precludes the application of evidence-based-medicine standards to the field.

(320) COMPARISON OF TENACIO™ PUMP AND MS™ PUMP EFFICIENCY USING SURFACE ELECTROMYOGRAPHY (SEMG)

The Journal of Sexual Medicine
Abstract Introduction Inflatable penile implant (IPP) pumps can be difficult to inflate, especially in older men. Efforts to increase the ease of use for IPP pumps should allow for more men to benefit from IPPs.

[How surface electromyography (sEMG) can help in biomechanical risk assessment in industrial work].

Giornale italiano di medicina del lavoro ed ergonomia, 2013
Observational information on muscle activity is related to sEMG activity expressed as a percentage of the maximum voluntary contraction (MVC). This is the case for the Garg and Moore Strain Index and the Hand Activity Level (HAL) proposed by the ACGIH. This latter involves the assessor recording the levels of MVC in 10% intervals.
