Flow velocity in non-uniform gravel surface: An experimental investigation

The evaluation of the kinematic characteristics of flow in gravel-bed rivers is one of the most important problems. In the present paper the stream-wise velocity profiles are inves-tigated on the basis of data collected in a straight laboratory gravel-bed flume.

Slip Velocity of Methane Flow in Nanopores With Kerogen and Quartz Surfaces

SPE Journal, 2017
Summary Slip phenomenon is one of the major characteristics of gas flow through porous media—in particular, in unconventional gas reservoirs with small pore throats, such as tight sands, coal seams, and shale formations. Consequently, a permeability correction needs to be considered to evaluate the gas-flow ability in these reservoirs ...

Fusion and mining of glacier surface flow velocity time series

2020
<p>Glacier response to climate change results in natural hazards, sea level rise and changes in freshwater resources. To evaluate this response, glacier surface flow velocity constitutes a crucial parameter to study. Nowadays, more and more velocity maps at regional or global scales issued from satellite SAR and/or optical images

Surface heat flow and Pn velocity distribution in Peninsular India

Journal of Geodynamics, 1991
Abstract A correlation study among Pn velocity distribution, surface heat flow and other related thermal parameters for Southern Indian Shield reveals that Pn velocity decreases significantly in the regions where regional heat flow and Moho temperatures are high. These areas are associated with shallow Curie depth and thin lithosphere.

Effect of Hydrophobic Surface on Velocity Profile of Pipe Flow

2017
The branch of fluid mechanics is also familiar with biomechanics recently. The combination of hydrodynamic The branch of fluid mechanics is also familiar with biomechanics recently. The combination of hydrodynamic and mechanical specification of the flow can reach the complex description of the liquid flow in the hydraulic system.

TiO2 Surface Modifications for Light Modulated Control of Flow Velocity

2000
Controlling flow in microchannels is an important part of microfluidics. TiO2 is a direct semiconductor that exhibits a change in surface charge upon irradation with UV light. We have exploited this phenomenon to control flow in micro channels. Light is used to modulate bulk and local velocities.

Turbulence Characterisation of High-Velocity Free-Surface Flows

2007
In high-velocity free-surface flows, air is continuously being trapped and released through the free-surface. Such high-velocity highly-aerated flows cannot be studied numerically because of the large number of relevant equations and parameters. Herein an advanced signal processing of traditional single- and dual-tip conductivity probes provides some ...

Entropy-based depth-averaged velocity assessment from surface flow velocity

Discharge estimation at a river site depends on local hydraulic conditions identified by recording water levels. In fact, stage monitoring is straightforward and relatively inexpensive compared with the cost necessary to carry out flow velocity measurements which are, however, limited to low flows and constrained by the accessibility of the site.
