Ice Velocity Response to Surface Melt and Lake Drainages at a Land-Terminating Margin of the Greenland Ice Sheet

Approximately 50% of current mass loss from the Greenland Ice Sheet is from ice dynamics. It is important to understand the processes controlling ice dynamics to better calculate current rates of mass loss and predict rates into the future. Previous work has shown that both surface runoff and surface lake drainages control subglacial drainage ...

Remote Sensing based Method for Glacier Surface Velocity and Ice Thickness Distribution Estimations

2021
This thesis presents a newly developed physics-based ice thickness model (named GATHI) useful for data scarce glaciers which requires only remote sensing inputs such as annual glacier surface velocity and surface topography. It includes an algorithm useful for glacier velocity estimation algorithm (named SWIFT) which provides flexibility in terms of ...

Quantitative analysis of anti-freezing characteristics of superhydrophobic surfaces according to initial ice nuclei formation time and freezing propagation velocity

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2018
In order to quantitatively analyze the anti-freezing characteristics of superhydrophobic and bare surfaces, the freezing delay properties of the surfaces were experimentally investigated under various operating conditions by placing sessile droplets on ...

Reproducing seasonal patterns of surface velocity with a coupled ice flow and subglacial hydrology model

The evolution of the subglacial drainage system plays a key role in the seasonal behavior of ice surface velocities both on mountain glaciers and ice sheets. This relationship offers an opportunity to evaluate subglacial hydrology models against observations of large spatial and temporal coverage.
