Velocity of Surface Ice Flow on Amery Ice Shelf Determined With PPP [PDF]

open access: yesGeo-Spatial Information Science, 2005
The main activities in the joint expedition between CHINARE and ANARE on Amery ice shelf are introduced. Five-day continuous GPS observation data collected on the site which locates at the frontal part of Amery ice shelf was processed with precise point positioning (PPP) technology based on precise products from IGS. Velocity of the surface ice flow on

Surface Ice Flow Velocity and Tide Retrieval of the Amery Ice Shelf using Precise Point Positioning

Journal of Geodesy, 2006
Five days of continuous GPS observation data were collected in the frontal zone of the Amery ice shelf and subsequently post-processed using precise point position (PPP) technology based on precise orbit and clock products from the International GNSS service.

Seasonal to multiyear variability of glacier surface velocity, terminus position, and sea ice/ice mélange in northwest Greenland

Journal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, 2015
AbstractGlacier ice discharge, which depends on ice velocity and terminus fluctuations, is a primary component of Greenland Ice Sheet mass loss. Some research suggests that ice mélange influences terminus calving, in turn affecting glacier velocity.

Velocity and electric field of the arc root propagating over an ice surface

2013 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena, 2013
Power outage caused by flashovers of ice-covered insulators is a challenging problem in cold climate regions. In order to investigate the physical mechanisms and factors which influence arc propagation over ice surface, a simplified ice model is used.

A method of calculating ice-shelf surface velocity using ICESat altimetry

Polar Record, 2011
ABSTRACTVery high precision satellite altimeter measurements from the Geoscience Laser Altimeter System onboard NASA's Ice, Cloud and Land Elevation Satellite (ICESat) have allowed a method of feature tracking to be developed for floating ice which relies on recording the movement of large surface undulations. This method is applied to a section of the

Velocity Profiles near a Vertical Ice Surface Melting into Fresh Water

Journal of Heat Transfer, 1979
An experimental determination is made of the velocity profiles which result from the free convective melting of a vertical ice sheet into fresh water at temperatures in the range from 2.0°C to 7.0°C. The results suggest that upward flows exist for water temperatures below 4.7°C.

Surface Flow and Ice Rafting Velocities During Freezing and Thawing Periods in Nordic Rivers

open access: yesJournal of Hydrology
In the present climate, almost all high-latitude rivers in northern regions freeze every winter. In the future, however, climate change may cause shifts in freezing, duration and breakup of river ice cover, runoff, and sediment transport. The main aim of the study is to determine changes in surface flow velocity during river ice freezing and melting ...
