Surface Impedance of Isotropic Metamaterials

Russian Physics Journal, 2018
The Leontovich impedance condition is considered in relation to the boundary with an external isotropic medium characterized by the effective parameters of metamaterials. The surface impedance depends not only on the complex dielectric permittivity and complex magnetic permeability of the substance, but also on the type of the evanescent plane wave ...

Surface acoustic impedance and causality

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2001
Several models that are commonly used to calculate the surface acoustic impedance of porous materials are examined in light of the causality requirement in its nonlocal and its approximate local forms. Strict (nonlocal) causality requires that the imaginary part of the surface acoustic impedance be the Hilbert transform of the real part.

Surface impedance of real superconducting surfaces

Cryogenics, 1985
Abstract The surface impedance of London superconductors with two-dimensional rectangular grooves of infinite length imitating surface roughness is calculated. Dependences of the effective surface impedance and penetration depth on roughness size are obtained for an arbitrary magnetic field direction.

Scattering of Surface Waves by a Discontinuity in Surface Impedance

2020 50th European Microwave Conference (EuMC), 2021
This paper employs the Wiener-Hopf method to analyse the scattering of a surface wave at the junction of two cylindrical supporting structures of arbitrary surface impedance. Approximations to the reflected, transmitted and radiated fields are derived and calculated for various examples.

Surface roughness impedance

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2001
The next generation of linac-based free electron lasers will use very short bunches with a large peak current. For such beams, the impedance caused by submicron imperfections in the vacuum beam tube may generate an additional energy spread within the bunch.

Surface mapping of thoracic impedance cardiograms

Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing, 1982
A method is desbribed for mapping the electrical impedance cardiac signal on the anterior thoracic surface in man. A sinusoidal current was injected through electrodes placed around the neck and lower abdomen and voltage differences were measured with a single exploratory electrode at 30 well defined position on the thorax and upper abdomen.

On electric surface impedance

Zeitschrift fr Physik B Condensed Matter and Quanta, 1978
The concept of surface impedanceZ E of an electric ac-fieldE ⊥ perpendicular to metal surfaces is developed and then applied to clean and oxide coated metals. Whereas clean metals show values forZ E which are not detectable, yet; oxide coated metals show very much enhancedZ

Evaluation of surface impedance of hysteretic materials

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2003
In this paper, a numerical procedure capable to analyze the nonlinear diffusion of the electromagnetic field into a hysteretic magnetic conductor half-space is presented. The result of such calculation allows for the evaluation of the surface impedance of the material and the formulation of nonlinear impedance boundary conditions.

Surface Impedance of Superconductors

Physical Review, 1960
A detailed calculation of the surface impedance of superconductors is given based on the general theory of the anomalous skin effect in normal and superconducting metals given by Mattis and Bardeen. It is found that there are large corrections to the extreme anomalous limit value of the superconducting to normal surface resistance ratio; corrections to

Characterization of surface roughness by EHD impedance

Journal of Applied Electrochemistry, 1997
The EHD impedance response of a smooth electrode with a periodically distributed reactivity has beenpredicted [1, 2]. A quantitative analysis of the diagram can be performed which allows the averagedimensions of the active sites to be measured from consideration of the two time constants appearingin the response.
