Effect of Surface Plasma on Nanosecond Laser Ablation
Bulletin of the Lebedev Physics Institute, 2018For the first time, the effect of target surface plasma on nanosecond laser ablation is studied. Surface plasma was generated by a high-power cw fiber laser beam incident on an iron target. A comparison of laser ablation by nanosecond Nd:YAG laser pulses (1064 nm, 5 ns) was performed upon exposure to the cw laser and during its short-term (5 ms) turn ...

Laser diagnostics for plasma surface interaction
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1980Abstract The requirements on in situ diagnostics for the plasma surface interaction in tokamaks are analysed. From estimates of the detection limits needed to measure the densities of the various particle species taking part in the interaction on the one hand and from a discussion of the principles of laser induced fluorescence and of the properties ...

Laser excitation of surface plasma waves over a diffuse plasma boundary
Physica Scripta, 2010The dispersion relation for surface plasma waves (SPWs) over a diffuse plasma layer is investigated in this paper. The layer is modeled by a stepwise profile. The phase velocity of an SPW increases sharply at larger layer thicknesses as well as at higher values of plasma density.

Plasma Energy Transfer to Metal Surfaces Irradiated by Pulsed Lasers
AIAA Journal, 1977Recent experimental data have indicated that when highly reflective metal targets are irradiated by pulsed lasers in an air environment, a larger fraction of the incident laser energy is coupled into the target when a plasma is ignited above the surface than when plasma formation does not occur.

Surface Laser Plasma in Laser Treatment of Materials in High Pressure Gases
MRS Proceedings, 1991AbstractUsing holographic interferometry the surface laser plasma generation in high pressure gases has been investigated. Additional information about the generation of surface cover laser plasma, optical breakdown in the presence of aerosol particles and condensation front forming in high pressure gases is given.

Probing of a surface plasma wave by an obliquely incident laser on the metal surface
Journal of Applied Physics, 2007A surface plasma wave (SPW) of frequency ω1 and wave number k1 propagating along a metal-free space boundary exerts a ponderomotive force on the free electrons, creating an electron density perturbation at frequency 2ω1. When a laser of frequency ω2 and wave number k2 is incident at a suitable angle on the metal surface, it gives rise to the ...

Laser Drilling and Plasma Formation at the Surface
2012In laser drilling process, plasma, consisting of charged ions, electrons, and neutral atoms is formed above the surface. Drilling process is effect by the size and transient nature of the surface plasma, since the plasma partially absorbs the incident radiation and acts like a heat source contributing to the drilling process.

Excimer Laser Surface Treatment of Plasma Sprayed Coatings
International Thermal Spray Conference, 2011Abstract Excimer laser annealing provides a rapid and efficient means for surface alloying and modification of ceramic materials. In this study, Alumina-13% Titania coatings were sprayed with a water-stabilized plasma spray gun. The coated surface was treated by Excimer laser having a wavelength of 248 nm and pulse duration of 24 ns. The

Surface laser plasma accompanying the heating and evaporation of microdefects
Soviet Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1988An investigation is made of the mechanism whereby a surface laser plasma is formed when short ( ~ 1 μs) laser pulses having a rise time of the order of tens of nanoseconds interact with a target. A model is suggested for breakdown on the surface of a metal in a molecular gas atmosphere due to the heating and evaporation of thermally insulated surface ...

Investigation Of Plasma Critical Surface Rippling By Harmonics Generation In Laser Plasmas
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2006Experiments were carried out by a tightly focused, prepulse‐free hybrid KrF excimer‐dye laser system (700fs pulse duration, 248nm wavelength, 15mJ pulse energy). Intense 2ω, 3ω and near threshold 4ω were generated in laser plasmas on solid surfaces for p‐ and s‐polarized 1.5⋅1017 W/cm2 radiation intensity.
